The Yongfu monastery complex is quite old and has a 1,600 year old history. Yong fu means "forever happy". It's truly a peaceful and bucolic place to be. You can still see actual monks walking around the complex. The place is huge and is sandwiched between Amanfayun Resort/ Village and the famous Lingyin Temple.
Recommended Itinerary:
Visit Yongfu through Amanfayun Resort/ Village. Amanfayun was an old village that's been preserved and converted into an exclusive resort. The grounds are open to the public. Go through Amanfayun and pass through old buildings and grab a bite to eat at one of its restaurants. Continue on to explore Yongfu. When you exit from Yongfu's main gate, turn left and you'll find yourself in Lingyin. This way, you can hit all three places at once.

Forget about the big name temples for a minute, such as overcrowded Lingyin 灵隐寺 a few kilometers away. This place doesn't require a separate admission ticket, unlike Lingyin, and you can come visit after seeing the Fei Lai Feng Grottoes 飞来峰石窟 on the same single 45 Yuan park entry fee.
Moreover, it's peaceful and a wonderful place to meditate or just catch a fresh breath of air. You won't be surrounded by flag-waving tour guides shouting through their bullhorns. This is a place of retreat; a place that makes you slow down and feel reverent.
Lovely views of nearby mountains; lovely small details. When I was there (late March) they were showing an exhibit of stunning photographs taken by monks that were about monastic life, among other things.
It's one of my favorite places in Hangzhou, a bit away from the crowds and touristic madness of West Lake.

We were planning to visit Lingyin Temple which is right by Yongfu Monastery. Didn't actually realize the monastery was there until we stumbled upon the sign for it, but we actually enjoyed the monastery even more than the temple. Less crowded and therefore more peaceful, with absolutely beautiful grounds, halls and an amazing view over West Lake and the city of Hangzhou in the distance. Highly recommend a lengthy stroll through the grounds. We could have spent half a day wandering and just sitting and enjoying the setting. We only had a short time to walk through it but it was still worth it.

Left the ship at 8am and returned at 7pm. What a wonderful day. Lee, our guide took us to Hangzhou - a beautiful town. The lake was pleasant, then we left for the hills. Ended up at Yongfu monastery. I think because this is quite a climb many people do not do it. But it is well worth the energy if you are able. We booked through Jenny Liang tours - would recommend to anyone - especially the able bodied

1 of 3 temples in the linyin/fei lai feng area. Linyin temple is of course the famous one, and has a seperate entrance fee. This one is free and less crowded
There are 4 seperate courtyards and sub-temples. At the highest point, a nice view of hangzhou

love the tea house. you can stay there for longer time, reading, watching scene with great LongJing tea. so nice place to keep your inner peace. there is one kind of flower in the garden, the smell is so good, when you walk in this garden, esp. after raining day, the fresh air, fresh tea, elegant garden, you will feel the joyful of life. never forget this kind of feeling in such busy city life!

We intended to visit the lingyin temple and see if we had the time to venture up the hill to the other 2 temples. However after realizing the second entry fee to lingyin, the number of tourists packing into the lingyin and how beautiful the grounds of the whole area were, we decided to skip the lingyin and see what the less beaten path had to offer. I think this was the best choice we could have made! We decided to go all the way up the top to Yong fu temple and along the way saw many buildings still in use by monks including their music room, various shrines and a great tea house, there is even a spring water you can fill your water bottle at. All of this with a large reduction in tourists and more reserved and quiet crowd than the busy areas. The walk up has a number of stairs and narrow pathways, but is all set in lush landscaping and the place just seems to calm and bring you peace, this is what you really expect from an ancient temple. We spent a good few hours in the yong fu grounds, stopping at the teahouse around 5pm which was amazing in itself. Being so late in the afternoon we had the place to ourself, and tried the monks hand picked and processed longjing tea which was worth the price. We also discovered that monks still use the teahouse. By the time we left it was dark outside and we had a very interesting 20min walk back down the winding pathways to the main temple and entry gates!

Located in Hangzhou Lingying scenic area, it has beautiful environment. It has been more than 1600 years old seating on hill. Seeing green plants, listen to stream murmuring and lighting incense in such a peaceful place are very enjoyable things.

This monastery locates near Ling Ying Temple. Even though it is not as famous as Ling Ying Temple, it has its unique charm. Yongfu Monastery depends on hills, is different from Ling Ying Temple. Every hall of it is separated to each other. Not grand but it is tranquil. It has a magic power to make people’s mind peaceful. While in Ling Ying Temple, most of the time you can feel is the crowded people and you want to go out right now.
