Visited here and also Linying Temple. The temple was very interesting but for me, Fei Lai Feng was of greater interest.

A lovely walk, take care as steps can be slippery, and wonderful seeing all the different carved Buddhas. In all, I reckon we saw about 10% of the 330 Buddhas.

It’s a lovely area, very green ( also visit nearby Longjing village for the tea )

Recommended.

We visited the place and found it inspiring and wrapped in nature and simplicity. A nice break from the city's stressing life

Hangzhou is a surprising city.
Its is one of the fomer capitals of China and while its name is not that famous to us, westerners (until the G20 took place there this august), it has plenty of treasures which make it really worth visiting.

Fei Lai Feng and the adjoining Lingyin temple are among them.

You walk along a stream between beautiful trees, hopefully when it is not raining (we had not that chance) and you see plenty of beautiful Buddhist sculptures carved in the rock itself.

You have also places where you can sit on benches under a roof which is very convenient in case of rain (as I mentioned before !)

The atmosphere is peaceful, quiet, even serene and you should give it more than 1 hour to really enjoy it.

As usual I have attached many picture's to try to give you a taste of the place ...

I have reviewed other places in Hangzhou and I liked more some others, yet I would recommend not to miss this park if you give it the time it deserves...

We visited on a weekday when it was raining and there were no crowds. We found this place very magical, and unique in China (and we’ve traveled quite a bit here). First of all, the caves themselves are really cool. Some have little jagged crevices way up high with sunlight sneaking through. There are stalactites and fluttering bats, and it’s just fun to explore all the little winding tunnels and caves. Then the interiors and exteriors of the caves are covered in all kinds of ancient Buddhist carvings, covering centuries of different styles — from distinctly Indian to Chinese Buddhas. It’s a fascinating mishmash, and to see them in such a natural setting in the woods is just a really unique experience.

Maybe it was just b/c we were almost alone on the day we visited, but we both found this place very sacred, tranquil, and transportive — and that’s an odd feeling for any kind of landmark in China. (E.g. in Yangshuo there are lots of natural caves but the Chinese have duded them up w/ colored lights etc. This is just very natural and organic.)

We were running short on time and so we decided to skip the Lingyin Temple entirely and spend more time exploring the grotto. (FYI, the Lingyin Temple is an add’l entrance charge. The caves are 50RMB/person.)

Highly, highly recommend this place. (It’s about 20 minutes from the NE corner of West Lake by taxi.) We spent 2 hours here but you could spend twice that; there's also apparently a wonderful view from the top of a hill you can hike up.

Westlake is still arguably the #1 attraction in Hangzhou, but after that I'd make a beeline for this place. If you have any feeling for religious history, landscape, sculpture, then it's absolutely not to be missed. Take a little time, go up some of the little mountain paths, soak it in. There's an active monastery and temple.

There are even more impressive Buddhist grottoes in China, but in more remote areas than this. Part of the charm of this one is also the wide range of artistic styles of the Buddha statues, scattered over this little mountain.

Hotel concierge suggested that we take a guide plus hotel car which costs RMB1,500!!! Dont ever believe them. The taxi ride there was only rmb40 and there are many taxis waiting at the taxi stand. We actually took a bus to West Lake, bus no. 7 which costs only rmb2.

First stop, buy entrance fees to Fei Lai Feng where you see many statues of Buddha on the mountain. A tiny cave and running waters to enjoy the calm serene environment. There are koi swimming in the waters.

Second stop, buy entrance fees to LingYin temple and here you get to do your prayers with free incense sticks. Stall sellers convinced us there were none inside and we bought some. There are a few different temples and there is one much higher up. If you look up, you will notice cable cars which can bring you up there for a small fee.

Third stop, vegetarian lunch within temple grounds.

Fourth stop, buy cable car tickets and take a short ride up with views of the long jing (dragon well) tea plantation. Lovely ride.

At the final stop, we arrived at another temple where again, you need to purchase temple entrance tickets. If you would like to hit the giant bell for good luck, thats rmb30.

Chose a Monday to visit and was pleasant. Not too long queues and not crowded. Other than West Lake, this is really a MUST VISIT.

Very nice sights seen.. Just small warning about taxi, if you decide to go by!! You need to arrange a taxi to return otherwise it is very difficult to find or bargaining for taxi. Other option is bus.
There is a lot of status or carvings of buddha. Thinking about how many years ago they have done this, it is surprising.
There is some temples in there which i don't remember the names.

The Feilai Feng carvings are worth the ticket price. They are beautiful carvings that offer you some genuine surprises as you turn corners and are confronted with yet more masterpieces in the mountainside. In a town that is filled with good reproductions this is definitely one of the most impressive and authentic things to see. Even if you do not want to fork out more money to see Lingyin Temple, it is worth visiting and you get to enter two other temples on the same ticket.

It is nice to see those outdoor arts , cannot imagine how they carved those statues on this hill.
The admission is 45 RMB, the hill is not too big, nice place to have some walk and enjoy those arts...

I'm amazed by the lack of reviews of Fei Lai Feng (Peak Flown From Afar) on TripAdvisor. IMHO, it is an attraction not to be missed when you are in Hangzhou. On this craggy mountain, there are numerous caves that shelter more than 300 statues dating from the 10th to 14th centuries. While most (if not all) of the statues have religious (Buddhist) meanings, they can also be seen as works of art. Among them, the largest statue of the smiling Maitreya Buddha is the best-preserved one of its kind and embodies the artistry of carving in the Song Dynasty.
