Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As one needs to pay entrance fees, this place deterred the crowds away during the weekend that I paid it a visit.. It's really a magnificent place where you can see detailed planning given to really spruce up this place from the flowers, the lakes etc

If you are interested in traditional Chinese garden, this is one of the place you should see. It was a private garden and now open to public. Very beautiful place.

I am not sure what Hangzhou is coming to, but even this sort of place becomes an attraction, which is a real joke! The architecture is quite nice - but like all old houses and buildings in many parts of the world, they are...so nothing special....The gardens have enough plants, but the state they are in are simply pathetic! Most flowering plants have zero flowers - I think the gardeners have forgotten to put in any fertilisers this season, or maybe they are trying to cut costs. They are supposed to be having a lotus flower exhibition and all the water lotus and lilies have very little flowers. And then, they have modern and cheap plastic flower pots to keep many of the smaller flowering plants near the ground and they place these next to the bigger plants in porcelain pots, which now become an eyesore...
The crowd is much less than other parts of the nearby West Lake - simply because they have an entrance fee and nothing much to see....
I'd recommend the people running this place to go on a tour to visit the gardens in France, Belgium and the UK, as well as the ones in Kyoto. For France, please try Monet's Garden and for Belgium, Jardins d' Annevoie....and for tourists wanting to come to this place to skip it altogether....

This Garden is located in Hangzhou, while most of the other famous gardens are all in Suzhou. Personally, I think this is one of the nicest gardens we have seen on our trip. I have actually visited the garden earlier in 1995.
The original villa, was built by the wealthy silk merchant during the Qing dynasty and later transferred to Guo Shilin, another wealthy silk merchant, who further improved the complex and renamed it Guozhuang, or Guo’s Villa. It is an elegant garden villa in Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, built between 1851 and 1861 as his private retreat. It covers an area of around 10,000 square meters. After restoration, the Villa was opened to the public in 1991.
The villa is built against the western hills on the western shores of beautiful West Lake. There is a clear view of the lovely Su Causeway, which is 1.7 miles long and spanned by 6 bridges, especially gorgeous and appealing at dawn in the Spring. There are the twin peaks “Piercing the Clouds” to the west, a distant view of the serene Southern Screen Hill (Nanping Hill) to the south, and the graceful Baochu Pagoda to the north.
There are two other notable things about the Guo Zhang Garden. First, the garden’s key spirit is water, so you will find it clearly highlighted in the layout of the garden. Second, the garden is designed with the elements of yin and yang incorporated into it. This can be seen in the clever way that the garden juxtaposes shade and light, the curved and the straight. The Guo Zhang Garden is considered as the ideal embodiment of Chinese Taoism.
The villa is divided in two sections, the living section, named “Living in Quietness”, and the relaxation area, the “Sky in the Mirror Garden”, with a pond surrounded by roofed corridors, little bridges, rock compositions, trees and flowers.
The heart of the Guo villa consist of the pond in the "Sky in the Mirror Garden" and the living quarters "Living in Quietness", as shown in picture below.
Another picture shows another view of the "Sky in the Mirror Garden", with a public tea house on the side. This is a nice place to visit and just gaze at the reflections in the pond and adjacent garden. The walking galleries have many unusually shaped windows. The picture below shows a second and third similarly shaped window on the walls behind, and then, three courtyards away, part of the garden.
The Golden Lotus Pond is in another area of the central complex.

Guo’s garden is an ancient private garden built in Qing dynasty by Song Duanfu. It is now the only well-protected private garden in Hangzhou. This garden has a strong feature of Chinese traditional gardens. Pavilions, flowers, water and rockeries are four basic requirements to build a garden. We can see a different view in moving every step. The most important way to build a unique Jiangnan garden is to borrow scenery form the distance. Guo’s Garden has done a good job in this aspect. Guo’s garden locates in the Yang Gong Causeway, very close to West Lake. The pools in the Guo’s Garden are connected with West Lake. We can look Leifeng Tower into the far distance from the back yard of the garden.
Last Sunday, I went to visit Guo’s Garden with a camera, trying to record all the beautiful moment of it. The entrance ticket is 10 RMB and it’s free if you have a garden card. The gate of the garden is not eye-catching that I hardly fail to find it. Once entering, there is a totally different view: exquisite layout, well-proportioned landscape and blooming lotus. I was dreaming of becoming a lady from Qing dynasty, appreciating scenery and making a poem. I was regret that I didn’t take some pastry with me; otherwise I can sit in the arbor and chatted over tea. What a fantastic experience.

This is one of the less visited tourist attraction in Hangzhou. We were there after lunch but it wasnt crowded at all. We had an awesome time enjoying the beauty of Guo's Villa and its garden peacefully. You can have a seat sipping some tea but they charge you for that. Definitely highly recommended to those who are in Hangzhou!

which is the nearest metro station from this garden??

Remember, all areas around lake are parks, and there is no obvious fences between each area. No tickets needed to enter most of them, which means all free.
Guo garden is on bus route. But walking distance from multiple bus routes for bus # 7... ( Qu Yuan Feng He stop Or Yue Miao stop ). Riding a bike or simply walking can also be very much enjoyable.
