I have been to the Flower and Bird Market in Kunming several times. It is a good place to pick up a bargin and makes for a fun time wandering throught the shops.

The market - part tinny to small size stores, part as street market - is a fairly good panorama of the goods available in Southern China: from ornamental fishes to clothes, from inexpensive jade bracelets to fancy ones. Also, inexpensive electronic gadgets, accessories, handbags and handmade souvenirs. In 1 h visit I saw only Chinese people not Western one. So, seems a typical market for local people, since nobody speaks English. And important: exactly like the markets in Istanbul, Marrakesh and New Delhi, the vendors expect you to bargain. Please do so, at least for fun. Start with 50% off and you certainly will got at least 30%.

The flower and birds market is a buzzing place in Kunming. Plenty of shops to get souvenirs from your trip here. I would recommend to talk a walk in the early morning or late afternoon. Lots to see and nice place to get a sense of the local culture.

Amazing, half a city block and 3 stories. Jade, wood carvings, tea, and lots of flowers and pets. The map is slightly incorrect. It is at the intersection of Yuanbo and Bailing Rd and its official name is the Yuanbo Birds and Flowers market. You could easily spend a whole day exploring.

This market is open everyday and is a low end flea market more than anything.
There is a plants section and some birds.
Plenty of animals also ,animal lovers would be sickened by their treatment.
Not appealing in anyway.

The old buildings are all but gone and are being replaced with new buildings of a similar design. As several other people have said here- the animals for sale are kept in terrible conditions and some don’t look all that well. I saw snakes and many (what I assume are) wild caught birds for sale along with orchids which were clearly ripped off trees from the jungle.
I try not to judge by western standards, but I found this place and what it says about the Chinese attitude to animals a little depressing.

According to our tour agency only we know there are at least 20 flower market in Kunming city. We walked to one of the flower market which nearest to our hotel. I felt very happy to see so many beautiful anf colorful flowers because I am a flower lover.

This is a good place to go for a stroll and look at flowers and small animals. Those who are used to Western standards for keeping animals may not be fond of some of the things they see.

We were told that u can get your souvenirs here but unfortunately, we didn’t...just a simple market sold flowers, plants and animals..even though it was cute but still, it is sad to see the animals in the cage waiting for people to buy them

After visiting flowers and birds market in HK i expected a lot from one in Kunming.However it was very dissapoiting. It is just a normal market where you can buy some souvenirs. There were no flowers at all, few people sold puppies and fish. Not worth to go.
