Because of free charge and not far from where I live, so I have visited this temple for several times. With the history of over 1,600 years, it first built in 265BC and is one of the oldest temples in Xian. I remembered I was in a dismayed mood before entering the temple, but the quaint buildings and quiet environment makes me feel tranquil and better. There is a turtle pool where many turtle lives for hundreds of years. I haven't never seen so big turtle.

I dragged my meat-loving dad to a great many vegan places in China, and this was probably the only one he actually liked. The mock sweet and sour pork had him convinced that it wasn't all bad. Staff are friendly (but speak only Chinese) and service is quite efficient. Menu is in Chinese.

This temple was a pedigree going back at least 1500 years. Even though the buildings have been destroyed and rebuilt a number of times it is the same place and was a centre of translation for Buddhist texts from Sanskrit to Chinese during the Tang dynasty. Some of the temples are distinctly Vajrayana with hideous scenes surrounding the serenity of the Boddisattva.

Bit out of the way but not too difficult to find. Beautiful buildings and many Buddhists praying. There is a nice turtle pool and also doves flying around. Definitely worth checking out.

This temple is a little hard to find but well worth the effort, free entry to a place that was built in 582ad.
Lovely example of Buddhism architecture it is well set out and superbly maintained, I highly recommend it for a must visit.

The Daxingshan Temple is a working Buddhist Temple in the Southern suburbs of Xi'an, a short walk from Xiaozhai Zhan Metro station and about 15 minutes from the Shaanxi History Museum. As a working temple, and like the museum, admission is free. The layout is a typical Buddhist temple with a number of halls containing statues, separated by quiet courtyards. The main hall contains five golden Buddhas but, as usual, there were a number of other halls including one with some (to Western eyes) quite hideous Chinese Buddhist Devil figures. Outside there is a street of traditional Chinese shops selling votive offerings for the temple - this is a glimpse of an older China and so very different from the main shopping streets in Xi'an.

Definitely a non-touristy option, it's a little bit out of the main part of the city. Take the line 2 down to the Xiao Zhai station and it's a 10-15 minute walk from there. The temple is beyond beautiful and will help get you to a very reflective state! Hands down would recommend!
