About
Tangbo Art Muesum possesses a collection of Shannxi folk arts, ancient paintings exhibited in historical sequence, and local contemporary artists’ artworks. Whatever your age and talents, after enjoying the perfect introduction to Chinese art with a guided tour in English or Chinese, you get hands-on with brush and ink to create your own calligraphy masterpieces on rice paper. If this is not for you, feel free to join other cultural experiences such as paper-cutting learning, shadow puppets making, rubbings making, and traditional Chinese painting learning.

Had a lot of fun and was a very educational experience, especially since I am currently studying Chinese. I encourage others to visit, families, students, etc.

The museum is a wonderful place to experience an interesting calligraphy lesson. The museum ticket is included a private English speaking tour guide who is very knowledgable and explained all the artwork and China history to us, also give us an insight of Chinese life both in the past and at present.
Last but not least, Calligraphy art is real amazing!!!

Arriving here on the early side, we had a private, personalized and informative tour of this folk art museum, gaining so much knowledge from our docent about ancient shadow art, farm art, block painting, mask art, propaganda posters, silk paintings, and more. Not only did she teach us in a engaging way, but also asked questions of us to assess what we were gaining. It was all so interesting that even my husband, who does not care for art in nearly any form, had a really good time. Lastly, we both thoroughly enjoyed the calligraphy lesson, where, step by step, we learned the basics of symbols, how to hold a calligraphy painting brush, apply to apply the ink and had a good laugh over whose work was more fluid and discernible, At the very end, we were given the opportunity to purchase paintings made both by teachers and students studying at the school attached to this museum. All were beautiful.

Even though it is not the main reason for coming to Xian, do not miss this place. A very different type of museum, very rare in China. Each guest, and there are mainly foreigners due to the entrance fee (80 RMB), gets a private tour in English, and a free introductory and quite informative lesson and practice to Chinese caligraphy. The paintings, art objects and reproductions are interesting and give you a good understanding of the rural life in the area through various periods of the local hisroty. We especially liked the vivid posters made by local artists duirng the cultural revolution and the personal experience of the interesting guide related to this period. Make sure you visit!!

We planned a visit here because of the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor. We loved having a private guide in the museum who also taught us calligraphy. It was fun and informative. We also purchased some art from one of the students that we have displayed in our living room now.

Leave enough time to get here as it is off the beaten path. We took a taxi there and DiDi back.

This is not a large art museum but it does contain some lovely pieces. The paper cutting pictures are exquisite and very old. We enjoyed a short calligraphy lesson, it's more difficult than one would imagine. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.

Lovely, small but richly stocked museum. Our guide was exceptional and really helped us understand and appreciate different styles of Chinese art. The calligraphy lesson was so much fun. Kids will alos love it.

We were pleasantly introduced to this intimate and rewarding art experience, ancient, modern and new of China. When I saw the TripAdvisor sign; I said to myself "this has to be good" with few expectations. The knowledgeable young Chinese guide was pleasant, informative and the calligraphy lesson, a great moment for our group! Thank you.
