Although I give some lectures at Sun Yat-sen University and have heard a lot about this great politician and educated medical doctor, I found it very enlightening to tour the memorial hall honouring him. He struggled through much adversity for the benefit of the Cantonese and all Chinese people. After graduating as a doctor he practiced as a medical doctor for about two years. Then he entered politics and devoted his life to lifting millions of Chinese from a life of poverty and free from ruling government corruption. After his death, his wife rose to the highest position of any woman in China (but that is another story).

This time I walked the grounds to enjoy the flower gardens. The grounds are extremely well-maintained, and kept very rich in appearance.

I thought it was an old office building but was actually at heather and still using it for concerts. Very unique building and keep the original material. Also there was an one of the oldest magnolia trees in Guangzhou there a outside of the building.

If you are visiting Guangzhou, this is one place you should visit. Apart from this great place, there are several tourist places around this location.

This is a beautiful, tranquil garden-park, the main feature of which is the 3,240 seat octagon-shaped memorial hall/auditorium. It was constructed between 1929 and 1931 in memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, noted for being a great forerunner of the Chinese revolution. This essential concert hall type building has width of 71 metres, height of 52 metres, and no pillars.
The grounds can be toured free, but there is an entry fee to view the inside of the Memorial Hall. I paid 10rmb, or about US$7.
The auditorium is used for tourism, musical and other performances, and conventions.
In addition to the beautiful flower gardens, the grounds house a number of very exotic trees and one referred to as an ancient magnolia tree.
On the walls throughout the Memorial Hall and on information boards along some of the garden/park walkways, there are photos of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and others, and various other memorabilia taking the reader through the life and adventures of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the rise of communism, and local history.
Since I am staying at a hotel a couple of blocks away, I often walk past the building in the evening and admire how beautiful it looks when all lit up.
In front of the main entrance doors of the memorial hall is a large bronze statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.

This area is full of history. The building itself is the past Nationalist government headquarters when they were in Guangzhou. This park also include a statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Worth visiting if you love history.

When in Guangzhou its a must vist t go to the Sun Yet-sen's memorial hall. Being one of the founding fathers of china as we know it today its very educational to experience this site. The building it self is not one of the wonders of the world but to study the story and history of Dr. Sun is important.

I was originally expecting to spend maybe 20 minutes enjoying this building, but instead spent 2 hours. The building itself is not just a feast for the eyes, but contains a detailed series of informative historical panels that lead you all the way up and around. I highly recommend this place for fans of Chinese history, but also (surprisingly) fans of architecture, design, and engineering, as the museum also delves into these facets of the Hall as well.

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is a perfect place to learn and enjoy. I really enjoyed to learn many things about Dr. Sun Yat-sen, who was a great man in Chinese History. He is considered one of the founder of modern China. The architecture of the Hall is very beautiful. The scenic view is wonderful. The garden with the palace is also cool. It is very near to the sub-way station. One can spend a nice afternoon in this spot. 10 RMB is the fee to visit the Hall.

The memorial building is a nice place to visit with interesting architecture. Unfortunately if you're not Chinese literate or without a guide who can translate for you, going in is a bit of a waste and all descriptions of the building's history are only in Chinese with no English translation. Still worth it for the small entry fee of RMB10. There are some cute little statues in there to take photos of and the design of the staircases are also interesting. But if you can't read anything in there, you'll be done with the place in 15 minutes to half an hour tops.
Avoid buying the overpriced souvenirs though, they were selling magnets one each for RMB35, which I got elsewhere for only RMB10.
