Apart from the monument to Russian tsar which is an attraction, the area around including Gagarin boulevard, and walking park by the river is a good place (even in winter) to spend time.

As statues go it is a normal statue. Nothing outstanding or terrible. The question is why there is a statue to such a bad ruler who is one of the reasons the Romanovs were overthrown. Don't go out of your way to see it but...More

The statue is of Czar Alexander III, but the tribute is to the incredible work of engineers and laborers who built the amazing railway. Location of the monument is also a great location for viewing the river and city.

Irkutsk has great monuments and little parks. This one has nice views of the river. Walking is a joy in Irkutsk.

This is a nice statue and worth visiting. There is a great view of the statue from further up Karla Marksa Street. And around sunset there is a great view of it from this street.

I've never seen a painting of the real Czar so I don't know which is more authentic, but I tend to favor this one. Location along the river is attractive, despite train whistles from the station across the river

We have been there late in the afternoon. We stayed there for 1,5 hour relaxing at the banks of the Angara river. The monument itself is nice to see but the park is better.

Its good that this monument is again back. Despite of all politics, tsar brought to this region prosperity and improved lifes of everybody here. Statue is also professionaly reconstructed and visiting it is paying of tribute to city's history.

Like most Russian monuments, impressive in stature. We had a private guide that was able to give us additional information, so it may have been more meaningful for us.
