It's hard to imagine this ship trying to cross a frozen Lake Baikal and the gun on the top deck seems out of place. You can tour more of the boat than you might expect. Too bad the larger ship was sunk during the Civil...More

Enjoyed our visit here, nothing in English but able to see most of the ship and wonder about the past ! Great bar and restaurant nearby too!

Without a guide you won't learn much about this icebreaker, but you can climb around in the bowels, and generally explore. It isn't expensive to see, and they do offer a tour, although most likely in Russian.

It could use some repais and cleaning, but you still get what you pay for. Plus, it´s an historical building! Captions in Russian, as it´s usual in Russia...

And it's only 100 rubles to get in. The guide only spoke Russian, signs were in Russian. I had a Russian speaker with me and asked a few simple questions about the ship, the guide laughed and said he didn't know.

Quite a disappointment for such an historic vessel and which has previously apparently been better looked after. The small admission fee of Rs 100 was little consolation. The solitary member of staff spoke no English nor was there any signage in English, and the displays...More

Built in 1900 this icebreaker was transported to the Baikal lake to be used for transport during winter. In the 60s it was so abandoned (due to a Russian engineering mistake while upgrading it) that it started sinking. Local fundraisers helped to restore it and...More
