It's hard to imagine this ship trying to cross a frozen Lake Baikal and the gun on the top deck seems out of place. You can tour more of the boat than you might expect. Too bad the larger ship was sunk during the Civil...More

The Angara Ice Breaker Museum is an interesting visit. It is a half hour bus ride from the center of town. It is easiest reached by taking trolley bus # 1 or 3 to the Marshal Zhukov Avenue stop, which is just past the Angara...More

My girlfriend and I walked from the centre of Irkutsk to the Angara Icebreaker, taking about an hour or so to do due to a visit also to the Soviet tank en route. There is a bus, which we took back, but the walk was...More

Even if you do not have time to do a tour of the ship you should stop to have a quick look and take a photo of this important part of the history of the area.

Interesting relic but rather neglected. Reachable by bus from the centre and a short walk. No information in English so the guide book descriptions are useful,

Enjoyed our visit here, nothing in English but able to see most of the ship and wonder about the past ! Great bar and restaurant nearby too!

Without a guide you won't learn much about this icebreaker, but you can climb around in the bowels, and generally explore. It isn't expensive to see, and they do offer a tour, although most likely in Russian.

It could use some repais and cleaning, but you still get what you pay for. Plus, it´s an historical building! Captions in Russian, as it´s usual in Russia...

And it's only 100 rubles to get in. The guide only spoke Russian, signs were in Russian. I had a Russian speaker with me and asked a few simple questions about the ship, the guide laughed and said he didn't know.

Quite a disappointment for such an historic vessel and which has previously apparently been better looked after. The small admission fee of Rs 100 was little consolation. The solitary member of staff spoke no English nor was there any signage in English, and the displays...More
