Fascinating Historic Ship but Museum of Limited Value to non-Russian Speakers

Yes it's quite a walk and yes there was a queue, even in the snow, however the half an hour wait (basically it's a one off one on policy once the ship is 'full') was enlivened by... read more

This is one of the symbols of the October Revolution. The importance approved on the huge queue. In the interior of the ship there is an exibition about the history of the cruizer whith many photoes and flags. There also exist a diorama about the occupation of the Winter Palace.

Yes it's quite a walk and yes there was a queue, even in the snow, however the half an hour wait (basically it's a one off one on policy once the ship is 'full') was enlivened by the presence of an entertainer (ex-sailor?} on nhis accordion and watching the naval cadets struggle to keep the decks clear of snow. It was an exciting moment to walk alongside this famous battleship whose guns signalled the assault on the Romanovs Winter Palace and the start of the October 1917 Communist Revolution. Twelve years prior to that Revolution the Aurora took part in the 1905 Battle of Tsushima where the Russian fleet was destroyed by that of Japan. That battle was a... More

This is the ship that on November 7 1917 started the Russian revolution. It the history of an era that gave to the world the communism. It should be a stop on everyone journey to learn of what shouldn't be done to people.

Well kept cruiser for a full century. It requires knowing its role in the revolution. it stays near the navy cades nice building and opposite to the nice ballet hall of the city. It serves as a museum but I did not enter inside. The external site is quite impressing but for short stop.

The cruiser Aurora, built in 1900, fired a blank shell on a night in October 1917 which, apparently demoralised the Winter Palace's defenders and marked the start of the October Revolution. Having received a repaint just before our visit, the ship looked magnificent. On board, there were many displays and although the majority were presented in Russian, with little translation... More

The cruiser aurora has been recently renovated and from outside shows all its magnificence. What was disappointing was the interior of the ship itself. I was expecting to see the real interior of a war ship, to understand its operation and its control panels, I was expecting to see the crew's cabins in order to understand better their offshore life... We stayed quite big line to visit the ship, but it was worth it. The cruiser was just returned after renovation. It has quite big and interesting exposition inside of it. So you can to explore history of the cruiser and Russian navy with some interactive actions.

The boat is almost brain new as it as been renovated in 2016. Not a lot of information in English, but enough to understand the most important historical facts. It costs 800 RUB

History abounds from this ship alongside the Maritime academy. The lines can be long and if it is raining (like most days) it can be miserable. For Russian history though this is a must see even if it is from the outside. This is where the "shot" that started the communist revolutions came from and the attack on the winter... More
