With the Lonely Planet SPb tour book, this is an easy museum to navigate for the casual observer. The art covers many time periods and you can zip through the rooms of less interest on your way to your personal favorites. The combination ticket for...More

Don't try to observe everything on one day. It's so big museum and there are a lot of famous Russian paintings there. Audio guide - minimum must have, but better - take a personal museum assistant.

Unusual and exensive collection of Russian art. You can see the influences of 18th, 19th & 20th century European masters but informed by a Russian tradition. The palace and grounds are standouts.

After visiting many European museums, this one has really been a delight for me. The focus of the museum is on Russian artists throughout different epochs. My favorite works on display were by Kazimir Malevich. I definitely recommend visiting the museum.

Yes there is a cloak-room, and they will store small luggage. I'm not sure if they'll accept suitcases or larger bags. Didn't see any.
