My rating doesn’t have much to do with museum itself but rather people working. Tickets were only available for 5pm with museum closing at 6pm. We came at 4:30pm and were lucky to get in.
Beautiful paintings by classic Russian artists: Shishkin, Surikov, Vasnetsov, Aivazovsky… At 5:43pm one of the attendants in the last halls on the first floor started yelling for everyone to get out as museum was closing. Just when I finally found Moonlit Night on the Dniepr by Kuindzhi - the continuous nagging didn’t let me to enjoy the painting for a minute. One of the other attendants switched the light off in her hall. Again, way before 6pm. Several were on their phones.
Very different experience from what I imagined when people are passionate about the art they work with and want to share that with the public.
If you go, go early to enjoy uninterrupted experience.

A great museum that would certainly have merited 5 stars in my reviewing were it not for the fact that my wife's gloves disappeared from her coat's deep pockets whilst it was in the care of the cloakroom attendants. Just be certain not to leave any valuables in your pockets and you will not leave this museum with an unpleasant taste in your mouth as we did unfortunately. The current exhibition featuring the work of the Russian painter Repin is spellbinding.

Hello! My review will be about the exhibition dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian artist Vasily Surikov, taking place within the walls of the Benois building. We visited on Christmas Eve and, in my opinion, this is the worst organization of exhibitions of this scale.
Tour groups come in an endless stream, one after another, and everything would be fine if it weren’t for the behavior of the guides themselves, they don’t just talk loudly and emotionally, they yell and are rude. And these are cultural figures, and older ones at that!
They drove away visitors with the words: “Go away, you are blocking everything for me!” or “Let people look!” In the very last hall, a much more scandalous dialogue broke out when a visitor - a woman of about 50-55 years old - took the place of the hall caretaker. Not only did the employees drive her away, but they also began to discuss it loudly among themselves for all to hear. Some kind of farce!
Having spent money on an exit ticket and an audio guide, I, like everyone else, want to enjoy the greatness of the paintings, be inspired by the artist’s creativity and leave the walls of the museum on a positive note, but alas!

I'd give it a negative if I had the chance. 1. The paintings we came to were missing (Ninth Shaft, Last Day of Pompey). 2. The security guard at the entrance was cynical with a person with a disability, wouldn't let her sit on a bench in the surrounding area. 3.At the entrance do not give the museum plan. Visitors don't know where to go. Busy caretakers, do not do their job (thank them) of expressing their discontent. The lighting is set so that the quality inspection of the paintings is difficult (glare). The last halls of the museum are filled with household goods of the USSR, which are in every house (these are not museum exhibits). 4. The museum is not competitive in price and quality compared to other museums (Hermitage, Faberge...). 5. The desire to visit other branches of this museum has disappeared.

I would like to advise you to purchase a complex ticket for 1 or 3 days on the website
. The ticket includes visits to several branches of the Russian Museum. In 3 days in the city we did not visit only the House of Peter 1
We saw the Strogonovsky Palace, the Mikhailovsky Castle, the Marble Palace, the Mikhailovsky Palace and the Benois Wing. With a comprehensive ticket, it’s very convenient to go everywhere. There are no queues at the cash register and the time is planned.
I also recommend printing out this complex ticket. I wrote the addresses right on the ticket itself. This helped me navigate a foreign city.
And the price of a comprehensive ticket is cheaper than paying for each object

It’s very interesting, judging by the photo in the exit corridor, before the walls of the museum were literally hung with paintings and exhibits, now there are much fewer of them. Very kind caretakers and wardrobe workers.
The audio guide is expensive: 400 rubles with a deposit of 2000. It is very convenient that entrance is by sessions, there is no crowding.
I listened to some of the guides and they talked with an expression like reading a book.
Was there from 10.30 to 15.00. Went through the main and Benois buildings, had a lot of fun

We were at the museum at the Surikov exhibition, how was it possible to organize excursion sessions so that at the same time in a small hall there were three guides with groups of 20 people plus visitors who bought tickets without a tour?
Crowding, disrespect for either guides or visitors. It was possible to hear something only by pushing the others away with your elbows.
And the exhibition itself could be simply amazing!
We had a wonderful guide, Galina Petrovna, everything we heard (or rather, what we were able to hear) was excellent knowledge and emotions!
Total, Galina Petrovna and Surikov 5 points, and the Russian Museum 1(.
Very, very sorry(.

The museum is wonderful, but the organization and navigation are disgusting. Don't waste your money buying an audio guide. There is a free audio guide from the museum in the izi app. Disgustingly boorish behavior of the cloakroom attendants. There are not enough hangers for visitors, you have to stand in line until someone gets dressed. The museum does not restore lost tags. There are many empty hooks where clothes are not hung due to lack of tags.

Today we visited the summer garden with a tour "Blooming Stories of the Summer Garden". The tour was conducted by Alexandra Alekseeva, the chief curator of the gardens of the Russian Museum. The tour is amazing!!! 1.5 hours flew by in the same breath, Alexandra Nikolaevna talks so inspiredly and with such love about the history of the garden plants. Thanks for the interesting tour.

It was our first time in St. Petersburg and we couldn’t help but go to the Russian Museum. We really liked his collection. At first we wanted to rent an audio guide from a third-party site for money, but we took it to another museum. It turned out that the Russian Museum has its own. The museum is beautiful and chic, with very interesting exhibits. But the service smells a little like the last century.

Какую экскурсию и на каком ресурсе заказать в русский музей впервые для взрослых и детей 7-8 лет?

Hi there, my wife and I are in SPB right now and stumbled across a book of Vladimir Lyubarov's works published with the Russian Museum. Looking online, it looks like they had an exhibition of his works running a couple months ago, but it is not running right now.
My question is, does the museum have any of his works in the collection? We both really liked his work and would gladly go anywhere to see some of his pieces in person.
Thanks for the help!

Is it safe to assume that the State Russian Museum has a museum shop where one could buy icon replicas of some of the exhibited items?
Thank you in advance!
Written 20 March 2018
Yes, plenty of icons in the museum and all over St Pete.
