Built to memorialize Alexander II following his assassination in 1881, this magnificent church with Italian pink marble floors and numerous mosaics was modeled after 16th and 17th century churches, contrasting sharply with the prevailing architectural styles.

Beautiful church, inside and out. Exterior is under renovation, though. Does get very crowded inside, so be prepared to wait while you look around. My only complaint is with the St. Petersburg card system. Nowhere does it say you have to carry the book around...More

As Cathedrals go, this is off the scale for its amazing mosaic art! I expected to be impressed, but I was shocked at the quantity of fantastic icon art.

Very good place to visit. Churches all over the world are places of peace and tranquillity. This follows the tradition and is a nice place to sit a while and contemplate this is a very nice place to visit.

The Spilled Blood Church is an amazing imponent structure in the heart of St. Petersburg, great place to visit, even though I would recommend not going inside if you're short in time, as the best of it is on the outside

Even if you have already toured Russia and feel that you have seen too many cathedrals/ churches, this one is worth it.

Visited at dusk in winter. The combination of snow outside and chandeliers inside made for a most romantic atmosphere.

We’ve been there 2 times, and can recommend to visit interior during the day, but also highly recommended- to see the cathedral in night time. It’s amazing! There are a lot of places nearby with amazing architecture and history, but Church of the Savior remains...More

The Church sits by a waterway, that's why it is so majestic and serene. But one must enter the Church to appreciate the splendid mosaic decorations on the interior walls depicting the iconic phases of the life of Jesus Christ. Figures of Saints are adorned...More

The design of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is a break from the neoClassical and Baroque architecture that characterizes St. Petersburg. The design of the church allows it to jut out into the Griboyedov channel embankment, which allows for a beautiful view...More

You don't need a visa to visit sites or explore St. Petersburg if you are within the 72 hour excursion limits. Just purchase tickets at the kiosk in front of the church to gain entrance. I have a 3 year visa, but never... More
