This house hosts the local history museum of Saint petersburg. Don't be put off by the first floor, which is horrible and smells funny. It gets better later on. However, almost everything is in Russian and information in English is rather basic.

Make sure to see the Commandant’s House, within the Peter and Paul Fortress, a museum to the history of St. Petersburg up to 1918. This museum didn’t emphasize the monarchy and the palaces as much as the development of the rest of the city, providing a lot of great insight into what life was like over this period for everyone... More
