The nice main entrance to the fortress
Nov. 2018 • Friends
St. Peter's Gate is the main entrance to Saint Peter and Paul Fortress, the first fortress in Saint Petersburg, it was built at the beginning of 18th Century. It was built in a Baroque-style and it has the emblem of tzars. The first contact with the fortress. Nice.

Main entrance to the fortress
Oct. 2017 • Friends
This gate can be found at the main entrance to the Peter and Paul Fortress. It looks quite imposing and may be worth a few minutes to stop and admire. Unfortunately it was a wet and miserable day in October when I visited so the photos didn't turn out so well.

Impressive historical gate entrance into Peter and Paul Fortress
Jul. 2017 • Couples
One of the neat things to see at the Peter and Paul Fortress is the St. Peter's Gate, the main entrance into the eastern side of the fort.

The gate was designed by Domenico Trezzini in 1717-18 and is an attractive architectural monument. The entrance is franked with statue filled niches and there is an imposing two-headed eagle, the Russian Empire Coat of Arms, above the archway leading into fortress. Above the two-headed eagle, there are decorative wooden bas-reliefs which are impressive to view.

Spend a few minutes to enjoy the St. Peter's Gate before entering the fortress grounds to visit the museums, chapels and other attractions within.
