St Isaac Cathedral is not located in St Isaac Square. That amazing cathedral/museum is a block beyond the canal bridge and small plaza called the square. The Square holds the equestrian Monument to St Nicholas. There are, however, phenomenal views of St Isaac Cathedral slightly...More

A great square that is very popular and has great views of the Cathedral Colonnade and the surrounding architecture really impresses on you the highs and lows of the town. Go to the tower, great view, good solid climb as well.

If you are passing by St. Isaac's Cathedral definitely go up to the view point with a lovely panorama of the city. Definitely worth the tiny hike.

This is an impressive square that provides wonderful views of the Cathedral. If you want to see an interesting little item, walk from the square to nearby bridge and you will see a marker oblisk that shows the floods that have occurred in Saint Petersburg

There is a separate entrance for colonnade - the view tower, 261 steps. It gives such a lovely view over the city

Another of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world, with painted ceilings that rival the vatican once again. This was just one of another breathtaking churchs here in Saint Petersburg. This is worthwhile seeing while here. It is the resting place for many of the...More

This church is pretty amazing. Such massive classic paintings, frescoes, mosaics and gilding. The columns are massive. The model that shows how the columns were raised are unique in showing how they solved this problem so many years ago. The church is huge, but as...More

It's not the square that is the draw - but the magnificent neoclassic Russian Orthodox Cathedral that it faces. Saint Isaac's took 40 years to build and you can see why. It's one of the largest cathedrals in the world - and it's four porticos...More

Inside the cathedral it was very beautiful. Lots of photo opportunities. Be wary of possible pickpockets however. Outside , there was a good vantage point with the statue and the cathedral at the background. Must part of the city itinerary.
