The name comes from the 6th century Hagia Sophia in Constantinople today Istanbul in Turkey. It was only returned to the Orthodox church in the late 90. It remains a museum since then.

St Sophia Cathedral is situated in the Kremlin. A very special old cathedral with a wonderful bronze door made in Magdeburg in Germany. Try to attend the holy mass on sunday.
