If you're gonna be in Novgorod it would be shame to miss this but it's probably not worth coming here alone. Interesting walk around the kremlin and then across the bridge and around the gardens. Go into the church and see all the ancient paintings...More

Everywhere you go in Russia, there is history. Yet another phenomenal place to see that has a special vibe.

... where you feel history, take your time when walking through, enjoy the view, where Wolga and Oka come together, look down the steps of Valerij Ckalov and like the beautiful flower arrangements before you pass the interesting military corner near the Dmitriev-Tower.

Must see, better with a guide. Ours was quite knowledgeable, yet, dedicated too much time to the monument to the Russian State.

Definitely must see in Veliky Novgorod. One of the best Kremlins we've seen in Russia. Very interesting and just nice for walking.

Well maintained fortress by a lake in the old town of Veliky Novgorod. Not so far from St. Petersburg, but communications are slow. Best way to travel is by buss or private car. Travel time around 2,5 hours. Viliky Novgorod was an important town when...More

It is interesting old capital of Russia. The Kremlin is on the river bank and walking across the bridge shows how huge it is

Beautifully preserved buildings and peaceful compared to St Petersburg. The bell tower and walking the wall are worthwhile for 300 roubles (combo ticket). Nice views. St Sophia's church is beautiful inside.

Is it ok to spend 2 days in Novgorod? Which hotels are best, not too expensive? Is a local guide required or we can we see around? We plan to be there in first week of July visiting Moscow and Petersburg. We plan to spend last 2 days in Novgorod.

Two days are really enough, we had only half a day during a cruise from Astrakhan to Moscow and further to St. Petersburg, which I felt we've seen most of the sites. I would do it with a guide.
