Perched on a hill over looking Magadan is this Mask of Sorrow commemorating the people perished in nearby gulags and camps. This is fairly far from town, so take a taxi.

Mask of Sorrew is situated on top in Magadan city. Nice view but windy mood. Statue is inetersting, you can o up to stairs.

We visited this monument on our way out of Magadan. We found it to be a very moving especially since we had all travelled via motorcycle on the Road of Bones from Yakutsk to Magadan. The Road of Bones is so named for the millions...More

It is difficult to articulate the impact of this sculpture and hard to imagine anything depicting the losses this city, as a former Gulag, has suffered. Everyone who visits this region should invest some time visiting this sombre but beautiful monument.
