One of my favorite corners in Moscow. It’s stunning! I love the festive atmosphere . It’s ice skating rink for whole winter but you must buy the tickets online beforehand otherwise no chance to enjoy it . Plenty of souvenirs shops , expensive brands boutiques.

January in Moscow is cold. Very cold. Lots of snow, wind & ice. Went to Red Square & St. Basils, it cost just a few rubles to go inside St. Basils but a lovely old church. At that time of year the court yard of Red Square has lots of merchants selling Orthodox Christmas gifts to unsuspecting tourists. If you can haggle you may get a bargain. Like a Rabbit or Fox fur Ushanka for about 4000 rubles. Less than US$60. Having your photo taken with these two Mario brothers cross Stalin look alikes will set you back about 1000 rubles each. I negotiated 500 rubles about US$7.00. But be sure to work out the price before the photo or they will ask for as much as they can get out of you. A word of warning to my American & British friends. No matter where I went the Moscovites were a little stand offish thinking that I was American or British. Once they found out I was Australian they were very friendly. …

Enhanced when we visited by a wonderful Christmas Market. Everything is perfect and you are free to wander around at will. If you want to visit Lenin’s Mausoleum you will need to queue and the opening hours are restricted, make sure you wander down the side of the GUM store for a fantastic display of lights.…
