After visiting Churchill's 2nd world war bunker during the summer, I thought it would be goody to see Stalin's Cold War bunker. Clearly he vested a lot of money in this project, thankfully it was never needed. It's quite expensive for a foreigner to enter,...More

Walking down 36 flights of stairs (18 stories) into the vast tunnels under Moscow, where the Cold War was devised and centrally commanded, was an amazing, thrilling, and awe-inspiring experience. Wandering through the tunnels, and seeing just how extensive the system was by peering into...More

18 stories belong a conventional appearing building at street level rests a remnant of the Cold War brinksmanship. This bunker was secretly constructed to withstand a direct nuclear hit (of its time) enabling the Russians to direct a retaliatory vengeance attack. Both sides' overkill capacities...More

While the price is very high for foreigners ($63 for two with photo permission) the Cold War Museum at Bunker-42 is well worth the visit. I am interested in Cold War history and this was a must see site. This bunker system was to be...More

Like others have stated, it's a chilling experience to be brought back to a time when we seemed to be so close to having a nuclear war. The tech and terrain are fascinating. We were shown a movie in English-- footage that I've never seen...More

Very cool to visit a once secretive place like this and see a glimpse of Russia's cold war operations. The place is in an unremarkable part of Moscow and well hidden. Once there I was excited to see a map of how big it was....More

The website was all in Russian, as was everything in the tour, including all signs and the guide's talk. The only exception was a couple of A4 sheets which gave some information in English about the facility. It was rather expensive, and foreigners have a...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
1) I want to do the English tour of Bunker 42 but I don't know what the exact timings are for the tour (the website says it's from 10:00 to 22:00). What are the timings for July 1 and July 2? 2) I see many different tours on their official website, but I don't know which one to take. If I have only 1 hour to spend, which tour would be the most interesting to go for (from a historical and information perspective)? 3) If I have a Moscow city pass, I believe that the "declassified tour" at 11 am or 4 pm are for free (I heard that from the citypass folks). Does that come with a tour guide or a self-guided tour?
