Worth a visit - especially when 'Best of Russia' is on display
Feb. 2017 • Friends
Winzavod is an old factory, which like many others, Has been turned into an area full of art galleries, concept stores, restaurants, etc.

Probably not to everybody's taste, but definitively worth a visit.

Located a short walk from Kurskaya metro station. It is possible to park on the side streets, but it can be difficult to find a parking space, especially during the weekend and on days off.

The annual photo exhibition 'Best of Russia' is currently on display and definitively worth a visit.

After your cultural experience there are a number of cafes in the area and I would recommend [цурцум]kafe.

Has the potential to be fabulous (but it isn't at the moment)

I'm glad I went, but more for the interesting little gift shops, than the confusing displays of art. It's a pity as it all looks as if it could come together nicely, but there's not nearly enough art on show, and all of the information is in cyrillic (fair enough, but not helpful if you want people to buy). I wandered into a sexual health clinic by mistake (it was upstairs, as were many of the other workshops, but there are also offices and it's hard to know which buildings have the art and which are businesses. It isn't signposted from the Metro station, but there's no need to take an official taxi outside the station: one wanted to charge me 2,000 roubles (c£29 at the time of writing), but I decided to try to find it with the help of another tourist. Staff in the station didn't have a clue (or didn't want to help a non-Russian speaker - quite a common occurrence) but it is a very easy five mins walk.

"Vinzavod" Contemporary Art Centre

A nice place to chill. Located near "Kurskiy" train station. 5 minute walk from metro "Kurskaya". This is a territory of a former wine and liquor factory. Currently this space is being used by several cafés, bars and souvenir shops. The majority of Vinzavod building is being rent for exhibition halls. Where you can take a look at some contemporary art and sculpture. Together with modern furniture and antiques. I also recommend you to visit "Hitrye Ludi" restaurant, which is located near the main entrance. Just turn right after you pass the gates. Nice prices, and the chef's skills are impressive.

Wonderful space full of night life

Watch out for alternative music concerts in this reused factory space. The restaurants and cafés are very good and the people you meet there usually very nice and open-minded. A glance at the Moscovite "bourgeois-bohème" life today!

Could be better
Dec. 2015
Lots of great exhibit space, mediocre art. It's hard to know what spaces are exhibits, galleries or private studios. Bad signage. Mediocre cafe. Could be a lot better.

Nothing special...

One of my friends told me that this place is the best one in Modern Art in Moscow. Maybe for some people yes, but I didn't see there really good works of Modern Art, it looked for me more like the market of handmade works. Also I didn't like the atmosphere of the place. You can find better places in the center.

Concentration of modern art

Winzavod means Wine Factory, which is exactly what it used to be in it's heydays. Now turned into a neighbourhood of galleries, contemporary art houses and concept stores.

It's a good place to see a concentration of contemporary Russian art, although sometimes some of the galleries will show some international work. Some of Moscow's well established galleries are based here. There are a variety of businesses, galleries, cafes, learning places, design agencies and so forth. It's a shortish walk from the Kursky Station. We ate in a nice place, casual, informal and rather large. The food was rather average but the staff was very nice and helpful.

Really unique venue but seems confused with its identity as to what it is. I couldn't figure out what tickets to buy or what they were for because NOTHING is in English. Completely unhelpful pretentious airheads at the ticket booth, surly old woman guarding the entrance to the one interesting exhibit and an IKEA sponsored exhibit that apparently you need to buy "Special" tickets for. Just to see the wine cellar was worth it I guess, and there may have been other galleries to see but couldnt figure anything out as again, there is no English. I went there with the intention to buy something but couldn't figure out what was for sale. Oh well.

Great compound; a bit thin on art

At the time of our visit there were very few art exhibitions going on: one or two photo shows and a bizarre Falungung paintings exhibit with obsessive guides who were also part of the sect. Most of the spaces in the area are occupied by design studios and home decoration shops, especially those selling bathroom tiles and flooring.
