We got a ride out and spent over an hour inside the museum reading every informational sign then taking in the accompanying visuals. To think this culture and civilization was functioning 1700, and more, years ago at such a high state of efficiency and skill is awesome. Their agricultural technique and sophistication in irrigation boggles the mind. Planting charts exist showing how to plant which plants. Of course the most highly visible and fascinating feature is the metal working. Copper, Gold, Silver all worked and used in ceremonial and hierarchy settings are found in the numerous tombs that have been unearthed to date. Priests, Warriors, Lord and old Lord, Guardian - each tomb holds the accoutrements of their rank, including whether they were placed in a bamboo encasement or a wooded one. Whether there was a female or child buried with you, or just a llama. Did you have sufficient vessels to hold you, how much loot were you buried with. Fascinating!…

The best part was the archeological site next to the museum. The museum was good but most artifacts were redundant from other other museums. I took a collectivo from Epsel terminal. Each ride is 3 soles. Just ask for Sipan Museo and someone will take you to a bus. You will be dropped off in front of the museum. You can take collectivo back in front of museum to Chiclayo. …

We had a private guide help us tour this extensive huaca and museum area, and it proved to be extremely helpful in enabling us to understand the sheer history contained and exposed in this one excavation locale. Off the beaten track it may be, but it's well worth the time to explore. Another significant 'building block' in the understanding of Peru's culture and history.…
