Nice park and the country is heading in the right direction to preserve and restore this historic site.

Our tour group did a hike here; and even though it is quite barren, it is also interesting. Luckily we had a local guide who showed us the plants and various animal tracks.

For some unknown reason google maps takes you through Paris of Parita Town up to some point at the middle of nowhere. When we finally got the right directions, the staff of the park told us that many people have gone through the same. In order to go there you have to take the road to Puerto Limón, then follow... Road is in bad shape... you have to drive through a garbage diaposal crowded with rats and scavengers.... When you arrive there is little to see aside from a disfunctional solar pannel plant, dried up cracked dirt, dust and shrubs... yes green sheibs.... this is NOT a desert... it is an echo system gone wrong... As a matter of fact... More

Drive from Parita a few kilometers on paved road, then left turn on a very poorly maintained road for a few more kilometers. Arrive at a small visitor center with very little to see. We then drove further onto a barren area and then retreated and took another road that ended in a salt mining business. Save your time and... More

Most people I have talked with have stated that there is not much to see at this park. My take… it all depends in what you are looking to do. Sarigua National Park is different, especially for Panama. It is the only true dessert in this country. Considering how much rain Panama receives every year it can be difficult to... More

It is not a desert more like a dried up ocean bed has trees on the sides and cactus. Just one small lane in center to drive to end. Go to Montuoso forest reserve worth the visit but need 2 WD dirt roads.
