About
The Lost Waterfalls is a moderate to difficult hike through the cloud forest in western Panama to three fabulous waterfalls. The hike can take from one to three hours round trip depending on how many waterfalls you want to see. If you are lucky you may spot sloths, monkeys, quetzals or any number of the fascinating wildlife living in the cloud forest. We are open every day and you do not need reservations to hike. You do not need a guide, but there are lots of good guides in town who can make your hike more informative and fun.

Fabulous experience. My wife and took on this hike to get a sense of the natural Panamanian beauty. And, wow were we pleasantly surprised. The views were gorgeous. I recommend if you can swing the hike!

Beautiful destination hike
Jun. 2021 • Couples
We hiked to the second water fall. We passed up the first one and tried to go to the third. It was very steep, muddy and slippery to get to the third one. We stopped at the rope. The second one was beautiful. It costs 8 dollars a person. You can park off the main road.

WORTH THE HIKE EVEN WITH SOME RAIN
May 2021 • Solo
Yes, it is muddy in the rainy season, but not too bad. I enjoyed the views, of course, and the hiking, though going up inclines was not what I'm used to since I live in south Florida, which is flat and barely above sea level. So I had to take my time while hiking. I brought along bottles of water and a couple of sndwiches. I saw only a few people on the trail I was on. Worth the time and trouble.

Very muddy in rainy season!
May 2021
We did this trail on a day in middle of May starting around 11am and it began raining at noon. This trail costs $8 as it is on private property. It is beautiful but there are very steep, muddy, slippery sections if it has rained recently. Beware.

Waterfalls for all

Don’t let the cost of the trail deter you from taking this hike. It was $8 per person and with several trails nearby closed because of COVID, you should take this opportunity to hike this one. We saw a family with small kids make their way to the first and second waterfalls, which was impressive since the trail is moderate. OK, we’re from Kansas and this is certainly more of a challenge than crossing the prairie...I’m so glad I pushed myself to go to the 3rd waterfall knowing that there’d be ropes to help ascend the trail. Before we got to the ropes, we were climbing up a steep incline using the tree vines to pull us up. Returning back down from the 3rd waterfall, I sat down a lot to climb down. I’m 5’3”and 58 yrs old to give you some perspective. So glad we went.

The Lost Falls in Panamá
Apr. 2020
If you're up for hiking in the jungles of Panamá this is the place to do it. The falls are absolutely gorgeous and the flora and fauna is amazing! Best to hike right before the dry season, because the trails get slippery during the rainy season. You won't regret thus trip. We have lived in Panamá 14 years and have done this hike twice. Takes hours to do so bring water and snacks!

Highlight of my vacation
Mar. 2020 • Friends
We took a colectivo to get to the trail that starts of with a hanging bridge.
The trail was quite tough and I was grateful for my hiking shoes. But it was so much fun. The beautiful surroundings, the challenging hike and the waterfalls made this the favourite day of my vacation.
I stepped into the 2nd waterfall but only went in fully for the 3rd one. Mind you, that was only for the pictures because the water is freezing cold, but it was fun.
We were also lucky with the weather and I lived that there were only so few people on the trail.

I recommend everyone (with basic fitness level) to do this hike!

Great half day hike
Mar. 2020 • Friends
We hired a guide to do this trail although you could easily do it on your own. Entrance was $8 which we paid at the beginning of the trail. The trail isn’t marked but is pretty easy to follow as the path is clear. There were some steep sections (one spot with ropes to help you ascend and descend). There are three waterfalls to see. The views were great and our guide shared lots of great info about the plants and birds we saw. We did the hike over 3 hours but took our time stopping at each waterfall to enjoy the tranquility.

Not for the meek.

No need to take a tour for this hike. We hired a taxi for $20 return from Boquete who came back to pick us up. The trail is clearly marked to each of the three waterfalls. It was tougher than I thought very steep and muddy, but with rails along the steep parts and even ropes for the hardest part to the 3rd waterfall. Good workout. No birds or wildlife to speak of, the hike is the experience. Entrance gate after climbing for a while, $8 admission as it is a private enterprise. You need to be in fairly good shape, I felt it the next day.
