This fort was closed at the time of my visit, and honestly, it doesn't seem like much from the outside. However, as the fort stands on top of a hill just outside Sur, it offers a really nice view over Sur. The view is worth stopping for if you are passing by the fort.

This fort is nicely restored. It could use more stuff to fill the rooms inside to give you an idea of how it looked in use. It's a good quick stop if you're in Sur, but I wouldn't make a special trip from Muscat. Entry is a half rial. Open from 0730 to 0530, Sun through Thursday. Closed Friday and... More

A nice fort, well restored, the main entrance promises a lot and then, there is nothing else ... Seems that the restoration project stopped at a point ... It is a shame because it has potential ... You won't waste time going there .... You have a nice view also on the city of Sur ...

Sunaysilah is very near to Sur Plaza Hotel. It's on a small hillock. The fort is a big square courtyard with rooms at the four corners. A few cannons and some day to day utensils used in the past are kept there. Go if you have extra time.

A large fort/castle in the middle of Sur. It commands a great view of the surrounding area. The fort itself has great parking and picnic areas and looks promising as a place to visit. However, no signs as to opening hours.

Nothing to say. The fort is small, open few hours per day (and it's not clear when) and totally renewed. Due to this it lost all its charme and truly fort appearance. All Sur castle, in my opinion, are not something special to visit. You can take a short car tour in the city and proceed further.

This 'fort' located in Sur - a small trading port founded 6th century AD is worth a brief 30 minute excursion. To be honest though this is not a castle at all - rather it is a fortified observation keep on the top of a hill Don't bother with entrance fee... you can find lots of good vistas for photos... Sunaysilah Castle is a wonderful historical architecture, having the old style built up. It has the equipments that the old people used to fight against the portugals, or the equipments that portugals might have used. One can see the olden days prison and the olden days schools where religious books have been kept. One can see olden style utensils also.... More

I would seriously suggest the readers of this post to not waste their time visiting this place. I don't think it's even a castle. Rather an open hall with four towers attached to each corner. There is nothing to see except for a few rusty old guns and a few rusty old cannons.

The fort is not open very often but is quite interesting. You get to see what a fort would have been like but there is no information and no guide. I had visited before and 2 of the rooms were not even unlocked for us this time. Great views from the top. They are doing a lot of building work... More
