I can confirm the ratings of other users - it's worth to visit the huge fort, many rooms are equipped with nice items . You also have a great view to the close mosque and the landscape.

The site (with a small admission fee of 500 Baisa per person - about US$1.30) consists of a former castle with a museum and the old fort - a large diameter round tower of modest height with crenellations. One can climb up one of three staircases to three points by the crenellations and look down on the town below. Our... More

This castle is around 200kms from Muscat and might take entire day to travel and visit the fort. This is a fort which is well maintained and is a popular among tourists. Apart from the fact that this is one of the few forts in the region, there is nothing great about this. As a tourist, it is good to... More

Visited the Nizwa fort on the way back from Al Hoota caves. Fort is nicely restored and can be visited from 9 am to 4 pm. Souqs sell Khanjar and bought one for 15 riyals. Souqs nearby close from 2 -5 pm. Nearby coffee shops offer coffee and fresh juices. Rested here for some time before driving back to Muscat.

Had visited many years ago and was pleasantly surprised by the tasteful development since. The local souk is more integrated than before and adds to the whole experience. Well worth a visit.
