About
The Swakopmund Museum is run by the Scientific Society Swakopmund. It is the largest privately run museum in Namibia and a favourite amongst locals and guests. On display are various types of indigenous plants, animals, minerals, an archaeological exhibition, the transport system of old and a variety of cultural historical objects. One of a kind and educational is the exhibition “People of Namibia.” It focuses on the traditional heritage of the different ethnic groups of Namibia.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were appalled by the unreflective way in which the period of colonisation was presented. It is high time to have a lively discussion and also to think about how Namibia can make the transition to a more just society despite this burden. This would be the task of a German-run museum in Africa.

I loved this little museum: you feel as you are back to school but is good because you can learn more of Namibia.
The most interesting part is the one regarding the tribes and their migrations and what they really mean for Namibia past and present and hopefully future.
It doesn’t take long and the entrance ticket is a pittance!

It looks small but it's not really and there is a lot to see here. Don't miss the details in the scenes, like the leopard trap at the back of the wagon!
If you read the labels you will learn a lot about geology, mining, culture and the history of Namibia.
Plan to spend at least an hour, it's the most interesting thing to do in the city...

This is really "a museum in a museum", representing the glorification of the German Schutztruppe, and the German settlers.

Considering that we certainly travel to learn about different cultures around the world; I think that it is totally worthy to visit this museum to know more about Namibia history. Well preserved; recommended to visit.

We saw the museum whilst on a walk and decided to pop in. Some interesting displays, especially about the history of the Swakopmund area. If you have an hour to spare, it’s worth a visit.

The Museum had a lot of really interesting items. You can walk through pretty quickly or spent more time reading. It is small, but has many artifacts.
