You can walk around, visit some cafes, historical places, walk along the beach, feed the seagulls, quite as chilled out as you like. If you take breakfast on the roof of the hotel, seagulls will make you company around, waiting you to finish and then the rest of your meal will eat beside you. BEAUTIFUL!

This medina is much more enjoyable to walk through than bigger cities like Marrakesh of Fez. The rampart surrounding it is a must seen as well considering the rich history behind it. You will enjoy a pleasant walk, in a relaxing atmosphere contemplating the culture of the whole of Morroco.

Have lunch at one of the roof terraces, the views are beautiful and the places are calm. Local food is better than occidental food.

Very nice place - a small medina, much smaller then the big ones of Fès and Marrakech, where you can walk quietly and enjoy the small and tortuous alleys and, at the same time, have a glance on the day-by-day life of a marrocain village.

Much more chilled out than Marrakesh. Not as extensive of course but it still has all the charm and culture to make you feel a million miles from home and back in time a 100 years. There is also modern and chic, hippy and artisan, berber and authentic, tourist and local. It's an eclectic mix to entertain and delight the... More

I took a wonderful Moroccan girl that I met in Rabat to essaouira to get away and really enjoyed it. I found it to be less aggressive in this Medina compared to places like tangier and Marrakech. Maybe I was just accustomed to it at this point though. It's a great laid back city though. Wander around a bit. Get... More

Very beautiful and nice part of old pirate town. Street traders everywhere as usual in medinas, yet in Essaouira they are less agressive and less pushy, thus it is more calm and scenic experience without the hassle you would see in Marrakech.

Great little medina that has lots of charm. It's all a bit run down, but that gives it something authentic. Some amazing street food and hole in the wall type cafes, serving fresh sardines and cakes and pastries to die for. The market on the main drag has some amazing fresh produce.Just sitting outside a restaurant having a mint tea and watch... More

A manageable medina, Fez it isn't, you won't get lost, but there is still a shopping experience to enjoy. We bought spices, leather belts, cosmetic creams, fabric bags and pottery. All sellers were willing to adjust prices amicably. Very little hassle, you can admire carpets without being dragged into shops. Several good cafes and restaurants, not all serve alcohol.
