    Sunsets 🌅 time
Original plan was sunset on the beach but there were clouds and few drops or rain 🌧️ it should be great if it is clean sky. Many people, tourists, students, parents with kids, stroking on the beach or sitting and enjoying local specialities. Parking place available but really full when leaving

    A Peaceful Vibe
We went solely for the sunset and it did not disappoint. The area is attractive with the islands as a backdrop and the lovely casuarina trees. It has a peaceful vibe, a relaxing place to watch the sun go down. There are also plenty of eating options around. We did not swim or engage in water sports so can't comment on those aspects.

The atmosphere at dusk is the best
I strolled around watching the sunset with a drink I bought from a food stall in one hand. People from all over the place were taking photos, playing in the sand, and there was a group doing a SUP tour at the venue. They all seemed to be enjoying their time in their own way. I wished this peaceful and fun time could last forever. Of all the tourist spots I visited during my trip to Kota Kinabalu, this was the most memorable place for me.

    Nice spot
We stayed at Shangrila so we walked one afternoon. Beach was reasonable clean and sunset was reasonably pretty. I would not call it the best but ok. Night market food stalls started early so we could grab food and got back to hotel before too dark. Got nice roasted corns and coconut drinks. Bbq stuffs and satays were not that great but ok.

Highlight of my stay in KK
After a pretty rough first 24 hours in Kota Kinabalu, this beach was an absolute joy!! The vibe here was completely different to that of the city centre. None of the edginess, just loads of families and travellers enjoying the amazing scenery and fab food market. Only a short grab ride away so well worth a visit.

This is probably one of the best spot for sunset. Would recommend going to beach 3 tho..beach 1 & 2 can be crowded. If you're looking for food should go to beach 1.

Sunset is at 6.10 onwards but highly recommended to come around 5 beacuse traffic can be a pain.

Stopped by Tanjung Aru beach since it is a must visit place in Kota Kinabalu. We arrived here about 1pm and the beach was deserted. Tanjung Aru beach is usually crowded during evening because of its famous spot to enjoy sunset. There is also a night market next to the beach which causes heavy traffic in the evening. Highly recommend Tanjung Aru Beach for sunset!

After reading blogs online we saw that this one a very good place to come and watch the sunset and we were not disappointed. We got a Grab from our hotel the opposite end of KK. When we first arrived the beach was very busy, however, if you walk down to the right more, it gets quieter and quieter. The sunset is incredible!! The sky completely turned orange and it was an amazing sight. The only down side was that many tourists leave there rubbish. I would definitely recommend seeing the sunset at this beach.

Tanjung Aru beach disappointed. We were told that you get the best sunset photos from here, but the night was overcast and there were too many people on the beach!

Just inland from the beach is the Night Market, which was lots of fun. It had great food options - Malay cuisines, cold drinks, fruits, ice cream - all were delicious and well priced! If in KK, visit the night market but remember to negotiate if you are buying items (not food).

Came here one day expecting something special as the beach is mentioned in lots of publications. Believe me, it is very average. Lots of rubbish scattered everywhere, walkways in a terrible state and beach itself dirty. It maybe a good spot to watch the sunset, but the sunset can be seen from everywhere. Only stayed about 15 mins and left. Very disappointed with the amount of rubbish everywhere in Kota Kinabalu, disgusting the way the city is usd as a trash can.

This beach is mainly clean, gently shelving and has some shade under palm trees. There is free car parking and a chaotic local market selling snacks and drinks nearby at the 'First Beach entrance'. It is probably the best beach near to Kota Kinabalu - although the islands off shore are much nicer. The sunset is certainly worth waiting for and surprisingly the place was busier at sunset than during the afternoon. One point of interest, I photographed a Black Hornbill in the trees - do keep watch for them!

We went there specifically to see the beautiful sunset. It did not disappoint. It was beautiful just as all the photos others have taken. The street food there was of course tourist priced but not too bad. There was a lot people there during sunset and often the traffic is slow. So plan ahead to reach early to catch the setting sun and get Grab ride to leave. Grab rides are so easily available in KK and the locals give good advice on where to eat.

Just don't visit Kota Kinabalu at all. This city and also Tanjung Aru beach is full with rubbish. The ocean is full with plastic waste, no sidewalks, it is extremly hard to cross the roads as pedestrian because of the lack of the lamps. The smell in the entire city is disgusting, we almost vomited.

You don’t need to go to Shangrila sunset bar to see the magnificent KK’a sunset, just take a stroll along Tanjong Aru beach.

We went during low tide where the sea water is a good 30-40m down the beach. It leaves us with a lot of strolling space and to see the tiny crab scuttle back into their holes as we approach.

We started near the food stalls north of Prince Phillips park and walked north towards Shangrila and took a Grab from DBKK carpark.

Lovely evening stroll in the sunset.

Visited here with my fiance. Has the potential to be a really nice beach but it absolutely baffles me how in 2023 people are still littering. The beach is covered in bottles, used cups, straws, polystyrene boxes from food and much more. It would be good for local officials to organise a clean up or put more signage/fines for people littering. My fiance cleaned up the small area we were sitting beside. See pictures of what came from a very small area.
