I have read some bad reviews about Weston wetlands trip but as it was one of the best ways to see some wild life close enough to Kota Kinabalu I gave it a chance.
Good for us because it was a nice experience.
The good thing is that we went with GoGoSabah agency and the guide that drove us to Weston and accompanied us on the river was a very nice and efficient guy. We were lucky to see many proboscis monkeys in the trees near by the river, macaques and crocodiles and in the evening the firefly "show" was also interesting. The dinner was acceptable and the drive from KK was long enough bat still acceptable.

A perfect place in KK to see probocis monkeys and fireflies. The boat men are awesome.. bringing us very close to both so we do not need to use the bino even though we are given. Highly recommended,

We were collected from our hotel in KK and it was quite a long drive to Weston - about 2 hours with one toilet/food stop on the way. The roads are not great - very bumpy. We had some afternoon tea once we arrived which was very local food - loved this. Then we boarded a boat and headed out to see the monkeys. We saw a few different types in monkeys including the probiscus monkey. Some up close others were harder to see. After watching the sunset over the river we headed back to the base restaurant where dinner was served. The meal was simple and lovely.

After dinner we hopped back on the boat to see the fireflies. They were nice - lit up the trees like Christmas lights. I was later told that July is a better time to see them. But we were happy with what we saw.

Went to Weston Wetland Park chiefly to see the Proboscis Monkeys and the Fire Flies, which in fact were really great, but as the monkeys are wild in their natural habitat weren't that easy to get close to, very unlike a zoo Still, armed with a good camera and telephoto lens had a great time getting pictures of the unfortunate looking monkeys, although some people think they're cute. After a meal break to allow the sun to set we again took off in a boat to look at the fireflies. Wow what a show, fantastic to the naked eye but unfortunately not to a camera. Had no luck at all getting good pictures. The sunset? ... well either we were very lucky or its normal, I don't know but whatever it was it was absolutely FANTASTIC!!!

There were 3 choices that we were selecting for the firefly/probiscis monkey tour; Weston, Klias and Kawa. Weston was the farthest in location from KK but based on some reviews that we read, Weston was the 'least' touristy. Overall, i think we made a good choice. We were lucky because the weather was perfect; watching those monkeys in the wild was awesome to watch. Watching those fireflies at night in Weston was the best firefly show i've watched in my life. They were in different trees sparkling like Christmas trees.

Afternoon tea, check!
Proboscis monkeys seeing, check!
Dinner, check!
Fireflies, check!
Multilinguist guides, check!
Bright stars above you, additional experience!
Transportation to and from your hotel/hostel, check!
But the journey was long, about two hours and more if the traffic wasn’t smooth. Travelling was already tiring, but I do recommend going on this tour if you are a nature lover who’d love to see rare monkey species and fireflies. Also suitable for passionate photographers who are interested in sunsets, animals, sceneries.
Food served are all Halal.

I spent the first few days of the new year in KK and unfortunately the weather wasn't the best. Nevertheless, we decided to drive from KK to Weston and it proved to be a good decision. By late afternoon the weather was perfect even if a little cool. However, the monkeys happen to like cooler weather. We were welcomed by very hospitable hosts who treated us to some snacks and coffee before taking us on the river. We spent more than an hour on the river when trying to get a glimpse of the monkeys nearby through binoculars. The boat driver and the guide were both really nice and knowledgeable. They took us to several spots where we could spy on the monkeys. After dinner they took us back on the river to see the fireflies as well. All in all, it was a great experience and I can only recommend the place.

The weather was nice when we visited. We're so lucky that we saw around 10 proboscis monkeys, 1 silver leaf langur, numerous long tail macaques and fireflies during the boat trip. Be sure that you've a telescope with you to observe the monkeys.

Our trip was in November of 2017. It was a bit off season so there were not as much tourists had we went there in summer. The trip started with a river cruise. At first you'd say that the river looks yucky because it colored brown but once the guide explained it, it wasn't bad at all. It was actually clean. It was raining a bit when we were there so it was an added fun. We got to see rainbow as the sun is going down. Amazing view. There were a lot of monkeys, some were a bit far, but the guide was kind enough to show us where to look and he even took pictures. The guide was Filipino and a resident of KK so that's an added plus. There's are restaurants by the river and we had our tea break there (they offer local delicacies) and our dinner before watching the fireflies. Despite the rain, there were still fireflies. It's hard to take pictures of fireflies with just our cellphone cameras so we just have to rely on our memories to remember the experience. If it's your first time in KK, this is definitely a must-do. You'll love it and this is probably the cheapest tour package. Tour starts at around 11 am and you return to your hotel just about dinnertime.
