Penang Island has dozens of food courts-- but this one is very different... It has been operating since 2008, and for the past three years has also featured a "Saturday Carnival" (from 5-10PM). This "Carnival" features pop up markets, street entertainment, an outdoor theatre and "kid friendly activities... The variety of (inexpensive) "food favourites" is extensive and crosses many different types of ethnic/national dishes. It also is very centrally located, easily reached by bus... and has dozens of interesting (most are also inexpensive) restaurants nearby. Weekday lunchtimes can be very crowded as many "locals" go there for lunch--- so visitors would be wise to come before noon or after 1:30. A visit to the World Park and "environs" will be most memorable and very enjoyable!!

I was told that New World Park was once a popular place for locals as it use to be grounds for two cinemas namely Globe and Lido in the 50s to mid 70s. Swatow Lane was also famous for its "ais kacang" which is a famous local dessert; made of shaved ice, red beans, sweet corns, jelly and drizzles of syrup plus evaporated milk over the mountain ice.
Today, New World Park is a modern food center in George Town, Penang. It is bordered by Burmah Road, Swatow Lane and Hutton Lane. You can find the famous "ice kacang" stall within the New World Park Food Court. There is a huge variety of Penang street food available at the stalls in the food court besides Japanese, Taiwanese and Western food. I found the char koay teow, curry mee, pasembur, chicken rice, teriyaki salmon rice, cendol, rojak and "ais kacang" to be quite good.
New World Park also has a well known Chinese restaurant named Seaview, the Starbucks and Old Town franchises and a few other restaurants. It also house a gym, hair studio, a shop selling wood sculptures, a sports shop and a wine retailer.
Lunch times are usually crowded and busy as its a popular spot due to its ample parking spaces and convenient location.

This food court is now very popular due to extended opening hours with most made on the spot drinks at a flat rate of RM 0.90. Don’t even have to go to balik pulau. The famous Balik Pulau laksa is available here.

I was staying near this place so went a couple of times, and passed through a couple more times hoping to find more stalls open. However, it always seems half closed! There is lots of variety, with no double-ups on stalls, and it's a more comfortable experience than many hawker centres due to the size, the cleanliness and modernness, without the price being any higher. The ice kacang place close to Burma Road is excellent!

convenient location where u can find all the local delicacies under one roof. personally like the place because I had the tastiest Penang Fried Kway Teow here with duck egg of course. The oyster omelette has a generous serving of oysters for the oysters lover and Duck leg mee sua has herbal taste, if you like it. it's really a convenient place to visit.

Was brought by a local driver to this food court. Was excited by the range of food there and can see a lot of tourists and locals liked eating here. Turnover is high, so easy to find seat even though most seats were taken.
We did not get to try all dishes. Forget about the Penang Assam Laksa, not good. There is this store that sells local kways, has the longest queue. The vegetable kway, bak chang and chee Cheong fun are good, seems to be a favorite among the locals.
Chicken satay is enjoyable. Coconut juice don't taste sweet at all.
The Penang Char Kway Teow is not as good as some of the ones I tried before. Too dry.
I probably won't come back again. Felt can get better food elsewhere.

A nice hawker center by local standards with some more up market restaurants most of which have a good reputation. At the center of the hawker center is a fresh juice and deserts stand. The Iced Kachang there (shaved ice with beans / sweet corn / jelly or with fresh fruit, topped with ice cream, is probably the most delicious thing I have eaten in 3 weeks in Malaysia. Highly recommend giving it a try. For some air con, just go into one of the chain coffee stores at the end of the complex by Jalan Burma. Definitely worth a visit if staying in a local hotel, but AVOID the Penang Laksa there - too much mint, slightly rancid tasting, and an over pushy vendor who will sell you the 10 ringit variety even if you only want the basic by saying "all in ... all in" ...
