About
What better way to learn how to make Malaysian food with Nazlina, who wrote a comprehensive book on laksa in Malaysia! We start the class with a wet market tour following by a hands-on cooking class. 8.00 am to 1 pm. RM280 per person with a market tour. (via PayPal or WISE transfer through DuitNow or to my email address) This is the 14th year the class is operating. Please book at least a week ahead to confirm your spots. The classes are held on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you wish to book on other days, please enquire ahead for the possibility. Prepayment is compulsory because people who book at the very last minute also tend to cancel. It is hard for us to plan for the logistics when this happens. Your co-operation is much appreciated. Join us for fun, and educational immersion of Penang street food scene and local cultures. Bring your positive energy and enthusiasm to learn with me, and I will return them a thousandfold! See you guys soon!

    Cooking with Nazlina
Nazlina shared her culinary skills and enthusiasm in our cookery lesson. We learnt so much walking through the markets and sampling food I would never have normally tried without Nazlina's guidance. The cooking course was fun and informative especially learning the skills of roti making! So glad I bought your Laksa cookbook. It is invaluable. Thank you Nazlina Vanessa and Tim

Nazlina has relocated . Find her she is amazing.
Our family went to the market then with some of the purchases we made Beef Redang, tomato rice and the most amazing fresh salad . We learned so much at the stalls and loved the curry puffs as we strolled around with her. Then back to her new house. She’s only been there a few months but no doubt with continue her awards . Hall of fame before the pandemic. We chopped, cooked then ground and pounded so many ingredients . It was lovely to all cook together in The outside kitchen as a family. We really appreciated the hours that go into some Malaysian dishes. It was a lot of work for us (5). Nazlina not only had to close her spice school but has relocated and having to start again on growing her own ingredients . There are so many articles awards and even a book, She has been invited across the world the world and no wonder she is an experience not to miss!

Lovely experience with the guru of Malay cuisine.
Fantastic friendly, enjoyable and informative experience. Nazlina is so nice and definitely the guru of Malay cuisine. Our family had such a lovely time and we learnt such a lot. The food we were taught to cook was awesome. Please do go on one of these cooking classes and if you do miss it, make sure when you come back you make it a priority. You will not regret it.

    A must in Penang!
We had a wonderful time and it was a pleasure to learn from Nazlina. We started with a tour of the fish market then had a traditional breakfast. After that we moved onto the lively Chowrasta market where we had the opportunity to try some local treats. Along the way Nazlina shared interesting stories about the history and the food of George Town which gave us a wonderful insight into the island. The cooking class itself was a delight and the food we made was utterly delicious. Nazlina is very jolly and a lovely lady. Taking her class was a day we will remember.

Eat, drink and cook like a local in George Town
Nazlina’s walking food tour and cooking class is an excellent way to experience shopping, cooking, and eating like a local in George Town, Penang. We were a group of 4 which is a perfect size for walking and eating, and experiencing all the markets. Nazlina is very knowledgeable about all the foods we ate, as well as the herbs, spices and ingredients we bought to make the most amazing rendang, sambal and nasi lemak from scratch! She provides wonderful anecdotes and stories to give an understanding of the local and historical context of George Town. Thoroughly recommend this authentic experience! Thanks for a great morning, Nazlina.

    Amazing cooking class!!
This day was fantastic! We learned so much about all the local spices, veggies and meats/fishes on Batu Lanchang Market. After that we went to Nazlinas beautiful garden to prepare the meals. We learned how to make everything from scratch (like curry pastes and broths), nothing store-bought. Especially the Asam Laksa that we made was amazing. Besides that, Nazlina is such a nice and funny person. 10/10 would def recommend!!

    A must-do experience!
Wonderful day with Nazlina. Met at the market at 8am, had breakfast together as a group - 7 of us (great bonding). Spent two hours going around the food markets, learning lots. Went to Nazlina's house & cooked outside in covered area. Made 3 different dishes..all delicious & the process was so much fun. We ate together after (6 hours in total) Highly recommend this authentic experience & Nazlina is brilliant!

Lovely market visit and super food
We started with a first taste: breakfast with bananapancakes. After that Nazlima took us to the market. We bought our own vegetables, fish and meat. We will never forget how to stamp cocos into chocolate.. for the rendang. Everything was well taken care of.

    Beauitful Day with Nazlina
Best cooking class in Penang! We walked through the markets, had the best dosa, fresh fruits doughnut & kopi for breakfast. We made delicious beef rendang, nasi lemuni with sambal, nasi lemak, and four angle beans salad. We learned how to cook with Ginger Flower - something I've never heard of before! Apart from sharpening my cooking skills, I learned so many different things that are uniquely from Malaysia & Penang. I was even inspired to take my cooking skills further after consulting with Nazlina and hearing her story. She is an absolutely inspiration as a woman enterperuner. Definitely a unique experience in Penang...I highly recommend!

I found Nazlina through tripadvisor. I'm so glad my cousin and I reserved a private class with her on Saturday morning. She promptly returned messages via email and Whatsapp text. We discussed a potential menu. We learned a lot from the day market -- why ginger from Malaysia is more potent than that from China. We shared a delicious appetizer from the market before cooking pandan-turmeric rice, chicken rendang, and char kway teow (stir fried noodle). Nazlina is an excellent teacher and extremely patient. It helps to bring a friend or family member who has knife skills! We visited the botanical garden close to her home after the lesson. Nazlina also gave us tips on Langkawi and navigating Penang. It was an amazing, memorable experience.

Nazlina's guided tour through old Georgetown wet market to purchase supplies and get a feel for the local food history really demonstrated what a special place and tour this was. Cooking at her home was both intimate and enlightening. Never knew what it took to crack a coconut and harvest it's meat, much less how absolutely delicious it would be in Pajeri naas. My niece, nephew and I are still talking about the experience. Thank you for sharing your love of Penang and food with us. We'll be back.

We had a fascinating morning with Nazlina. We began by touring the markets of Georgetown to buy food, after which we returned to her house to prepare and eat our meal. I’m no cook, but I learned a lot, and even ended up with a very satisfactory lunch - way better than anything I’ve ever cooked before. A great way to learn a bit about Malaysia and Malaysian food.

My wife and I joined three others to make a small and friendly group. We toured local Georgetown markets with Nazlina imparting knowledge on many aspects of local food and life in general.

We had breakfast at a locals’ restaurant then went back to Nazlina’s home for the cooking class.

We prepared a few dishes under the supervision of Nazlina then sat down together as a group to consume them.

The experience was both informative and fun throughout, I would recommend it to anyone wanting to gain a greater understanding of Penang/Malaysian food.

My husband and I spent a delightful time with Nazlna on her cooking course. It started with a delicious breakfast at a great local cafe where we found out it was Nazlina’s birthday. Nazlina then took us through various markets in Georgetown to buy the freshest of ingredients for our cooking class. The class took place in her open air kitchen where we were expertly shown step by step how to cook four delicious dishes. Char kwey teow, chicken rendang, turmeric rice and a vegetable dish. We absolutely loved it and it was a highlight of our stay in Georgetown- would highly recommend doing this cooking course!

A wonderful 6 hours with Nazlina. Tasty breakfast, market tour and then a fun cooking class in the garden at her home where we perfected our Char Kway Teow skills and made a delicious rendang. Heaps of tips and tricks. Nazlina also share her detailed recipe guide after the class. I really feel I could recreate these Malaysian treats back home. We've done lots of cokking classes and this one was excellent.

Booked the night before, Nazlina was very swift with her response. Which was great, as the next day we found ourselves on a market with one of the best guides we had!
So the market was the start, the best was yet to come… a great workshop with good conversations, fantastic tips and tricks and the food… the food. We can pat ourselves on the back, but without the help of Nazlina we wouldnt have been able to put this on the table. It was just amazing!

Nazlina took the time for us, we finished around 7pm (started around 2:30pm).

Time well spend! Thank you Nazlina for a great afternoon and a fantastic dish. We enjoyed the workshop and the conversations. And would recommend everyone to join one of your classes!

Booking from Australia for myself and 5 friends was easy via Nazlina's website. The tour of the Georgetown markets and breakfast was plenty of fun with lots of photo opportunities and so much historical information from Nazlina. We all enjoyed learning new cooking tips and techniques - something you would be unlikely to find in classes where everything is pre-prepared. We were extremely happy with our creations, and there were plenty of laughs and fun along the way. I would recommend this course for anyone who loves cooking and Malaysian food. The bonus is that you learn so much about Penang and food along the way. Try and do this course at the start of your stay in Georgetown as it's a great introduction to where and what to eat.

We booked Nazlina on a little short notice, back in April. Thankfully she was great at responding to our email and was speedy enough to book us in. We met with a small group nearby our Georgetown hotel for a market your, we smelt and enjoyed little tasters from the market before stopping for a traditional breakfast - a great touch to stave off he hunger pangs.

We took an Uber to her house where she had cooking stations set up in the garden. We cooked a plethora of delicious dishes. None of which I could ever receeate despite her handy recipes she emailed out.

A very fun morning and a very lovely lady - very glad we chose her.
