- Adrian LeeSemenyih, Malaysia7,237 contributionsExciting expedition to trail here 💞💞One of the most beautify Mother Nature: The Mossy Forest. Its beauty itself is captivating many foreigners and hikers to hike and walk along the forest with great smile and enduring the fresh refreshing air that brings calmness and joy while breezing mesmerising the walk at mossy forest. Every trees and bridge are well kept with refreshing greenery that brings inner state of mind of peace when walking through the trail. The air in this forest is so fresh and cooling that brings out the enjoyment in trailing and hiking during our expedition here. Many greenery and trees to look out for beautiful photo scene. However we need to take a 4WD up as normal car might not reach the top; as the road to the forest is very narrow and the access towards the top could be very dangerous as journey to the top is quite challenging due to the way the road access to the top. 💞💞💞Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 January 2024
- inascullyKuala Lumpur, Malaysia776 contributionsYes, please come visitWe booked a half-day tour a night before our tour with Oastel.com. RM50/pax to BOH tea plantation & Mossy Forest. Pay entrance tickets to Mossy Forest separately. Our guide picked us up at 8 am at Tanah Rata by a cool-looking Land Rover Defender. If you can, please bring along some dog food/food to feed the friendly dogs along the way up. Some dogs seem hungry 😟. But please do not leave any rubbish. We arrived around 10++ am. Some visitors brave enough to drive sedan cars, and MPVs, caused traffic due to inexperience. Parking is not enough to cater for cars here. Might get worse on weekends. The weather was nice during our visit. Our guide, Mr. Selvam is a well-experienced guide & explained to us a lot about the plants including the mosquito repellant plant, Citronella. Never had we breathed so fresh air! Smoking is not allowed! The weather changes, so each day is different in the mossy forest. We had a wonderful tour with Mr Selvam (contact him at +60124424781).Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 March 2024
- Big Geordie9 contributionsGood with drawbacks.Online it says taxis regularly travel up. So I took my Honda car. It was okay but the road is very: steep, narrow , winding & rough. Car made it but taken very slowly & very early morning before the 4x4s start cruising up. Staff are unusually less than friendly for Malaysians, not unfriendly, but not the smiling helpful people that most tourists encounter. Views are impressive, especially from the tower. The rest of the boardwalk is okay, but the Mossy Forest is really an underwhelming experience; better experiences are to be had in Malaysia. Pricing is a rip off for foreigners, okay I know we can afford it, but the differential is up to 600%. Worth the visit, but as a long term resident in Malaysia,I will not be returning or recommending.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 13 March 2024
- Lauren303Steamboat Springs, Colorado48 contributionsPretty but crowdedVery pretty but so crowded. It is on the Cameron Highland tour route that EVERYONE does and so a billion people are there at the same time come about 10 am. The tour companies drive Landrovers that spew a ton of fumes and apparently make so much noise that it harms the cicadas. Also, it was not a hike, but rather a stroll on a crowded boardwalk. It sounded as though you could go past the boardwalk and do a more legit hike, however. If I were to go again, I’d try to go when it first opens and hopefully beat all the tours.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 May 2024
- The_Traveler010710Shah Alam, Malaysia3,112 contributionsAmazing Mossy ForestWe've been wanting to come here long long time ago. Previously we couldn't find the road going up there. This time, we use travel package, Half Day Mossy Forest via Cameron RS Travel & Tour. Our guide, Govin, very knowledgeable and he explained each and everything to us about Mossy Forest. Mossy Forest is located at the higher ground in Cameron Highlands, passing by Boh Tea plantations. nice and beautiful short walk from the parking of Mossy Forest. Currently the boardwalk is closed due to maintenance but one can walk through a small road. It's a short walk going up and coming down within 20-minutes. Overall, it's a good experience to see all these moss covering the trees and plants, looks very much like a fantasy land.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 August 2024

Go with a tour guide as they have 4x4`s as the roads are bad, but worth a visit. Hopefully the weather is clear as the boardwalk can get slippery when wet. You are charged MYR30 per person and can walk the boardwalk through the forest and see something very magical. Enjoy.

Mossy Forest
Brinchang
In the heart of the jungle
917043887
The mossy forest is located a few kilometers from the town of Brinchang, on the border between two sultanates, that of Pahang and that of Perak.
The road that leads there is winding and narrow, under construction and sometimes in really bad shape. If you rent a car, you are likely to drive up to the parking lot at the top (which is quite small) regardless of the car model. However, in bad weather – which can happen quickly – it is better to avoid venturing blindly on this road.
When we went there, we looked at the weather forecast and saw that the morning was going to be beautiful and sunny. We went to the moss forest thanks to a person we had previously contacted via WhatsApp: Mr. ADIB. Their contact details are available if you contact the Pahang Sultanate Tourism Office.
Riding in the back of a pickup truck was an adventure in itself and we found it to be truly the best way to get to the moss forest. We paid RM50 per person for the round trip and we could stay as long as we wanted, previously negotiated with the driver.
Entrance to the course set out in the forest is RM30 per person. The course is open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be closed in bad weather. Again, go in the morning if the weather is clear as that is definitely the best time. At the same time, you will avoid the crowds. Between the start and the end of the route, there are around 800 meters of planks and wooden stairs allowing you to walk through the famous moss forest. Signs with explanations are placed along the walk, which allows you to learn more about the local fauna and flora. An observation tower located approximately halfway along the route allows you to gain height and overlook the entire area. An orientation map explains the points of interest in 360°. The view of the jungle and the mountains is breathtaking.
The route is well made, there are benches and shaded areas to rest. Some places are a little more difficult to access and some railings are missing. Be careful if you are accompanied by children. Otherwise it's a real pleasure to be up there in the canopy of trees, you will even hear monkeys or other animals.
Allow around 2 hours on site. Toilets on site.

Our highlight of Cameron was Mossy forest and would highly recommend it. If not for anything else then you must go just to breathe in the freshest air imaginable. Do note though that the road leading upto it is not so great and we were thankful to be in a Honda CRV. At some places it’s a steep incline. Entry charge is 30 rm per person if you are a foreigner. The board walks inside the park are laid out well, with wiring over the wooden planks at some places to ensure it’s not slippery. Will recommend well soled shoes though. Went with my elderly parents who didn’t find it troublesome to walk n climb (though they are pretty fit)

Very mystical, windy, cold and wet. Can get dark as you are under a canopy of trees. Reputed to be oldest in Malaysia surpassing Taman Negara because it was never explored due to it's rather scary dark nature. That said, the kids loved it. The site had a walk way wooden and can get slippery but the forestry department was smart enough to put steel nets to ensure that people do not trip.
You have to pay RM10 for a Malaysian at the counter. It is a short walk around but many were there for the lovely pictures. In most cases you are surrounded by cloud so it has that effect of very cold.
Young kids not encouraged ie babies.. you would have to carry them through the uneven steps can can trip. Old folks challenging as the steps up & down can be as high as two steps. All uneven.

We drove up the mountain with great anticipation to get the view from the highest peak and see the mossy forest but were sorely disappointed when we got ¾ of the way to find out that the road coming up had ruts 1ft deep (30 cm) and you could not go up without a 4x4. Turning back on a 3m wide road when cars are in front and behind you trying to do the same thing was painful. The local community should either put a sign saying "do not enter if you don't have a 4x4" or fix the road. This was very disappointing.

This is the 2nd time visiting this place together with my family and friends.I would say it is a must for everyone visiting Cameron Highlands to be here as the experience is spectacular as we climb the hill.We booked two Land Rovers from CS Travel to bring us here as they are very experienced and the tour guide is very friendly.Safety is paramount at all times. As we reached the top of the hill, found that it is even better this time as the management has completed the wooden trail to assist everyone to climb up and get down the hill safely.

I booked a 1 day tour with Cameron holiday tours. their program covers all the interesting sites. I personally prefered the drive towards and the visit of the mossy forest. Our guide explained a lot about the flora and fauna and we were lucky to see some nice cobra lily. The view from the forest is amazing on a sunny day. Strongly recommended.

We went on a tour with Ecocameron, our guide was Balla. We were collected at 8.45am from The Cameron Highlands Resort and had a good 4 hour trip, with Boh plantation included. Great half day trip and enjoyed hearing about the various flora in the forest from Bala.
The 4 wheel drive was in my opinion absolutely essential. DO NOT drive yourself as we saw a lot of cars in trouble. The road is terrible and it needs a 4-wheel drive and experienced driver to navigate.

I heard that missy forest walkway is closed in August? Will it be open mid September? How long is the walk?
Written 9 September 2020
Yes, the Mossy Forest was closed while I was there. We were offered and taken to an alternative hiking trail by our guide. The place is not marked on any maps. The only difference was that there was no broadwalk and no entrance fees. I believe the flora and fauna was just as great. Hike was about 30mins (approx 500m) each way and not difficult at all.
