Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So worth a visit, beautifully run, community based sanctuary for orphaned elephants from the local area. A very comprehensive guide that takes you through the kitchens where the individual formulas are created, what’s in each and why.
Whilst the final road into reteti is bad, there is an airstrip for the faint hearted!

As part of our Shadows of Africa safari, we took a day trip to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary. What a great experience seeing the baby elephants and giraffes! Our guide was very knowledgeable about the animals and how sanctuary operates. The local community works at the sanctuary and provides goat milk for the elephants. If you are in Samburu, it is definitely worth the drive!

The malnutritioned and abandoned elephants are taken care upto the age of 5 by this non profit organisation afterwhich they are released to national parks.. they are fed with goat milk, moringa and baby food apart from natural food.. the staff show immense dedication to their work and great job done by the founders ... its bit far away from samburu national reserve (3 hours from archers post one side) and about 50 km of mud road to reach there .. the feeding time is every 3 hours like 9, 12, 3, 6.. its not advisable to visit on rainy days and best time to reach before 12 to see and 2 feedings. There are few giraffes and deer also there and you can go near them and take pictures, however going near elephants is forbidden

After we tried to reach them via Mail and they didnt respond, we could finaly reach them via WhatsApp. We booked a Visit 4 days in advance. After our booking they changed the visiting time 2 Times. So a Confirmation of this guys doesnt mean anything. As we are not in this Area only for the Reteti and dont want to change our other Plans like they wish, we unfortenetly cancel the Trip. Maybe the organization and comunication is better, if you Plan your Visit trough your Hotel or an Agency.

This newly opened elephant orphanage is definitely worth the visit. Most of the babies are rescued after falling in wells, or as a result of human wildlife conflict. While there is another well known elephant orphanage in Kenya, the philosophy at Reteti is to release these babies who have been rescued in the NRT, back to the NRT. That way, the elephant population in the north will stay stable. I. Addition to elephants, they also have baby elands, giraffe and zebras on site.

We enjoyed every minute of thé visit. Starting by thé gerenuk, thé baby giraffe And thé baby Zebra. Then of course thé éléphants. We learnt how they are fed. Russia was out guide who answered all our questions. Thé keepers really seem to enjoy taking Care of thé animals. It s very remote which adds to thé Magic. But it s a very nice expérience to drive there instead of flying. Thèse are harsh conditions that deserve a visit for thé keepers And the animals. 👏👏♥️♥️♥️

Watching the orphaned elephants especially the baby elephants being fed followed by their frolicking in the water and dirt and their playful interactions were all delightfully amazing! Highly recommend the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary!

A wonderful experience , the care shown to the young elephants 🐘 is amazing and very thorough. We went at nine o’clock in time to see a feeding , the unbounded joy of the young elephants as they run towards the keepers with the specific mixture for that elephant will remain with me for a very long time.
The orphanage is remote but well worth it.

We thought this was an amazing adventure. We of course did Sheldrick in Nairobi but Reteti was an experience in itself, we found it much more authentic and private. We were close-up with the animals and even got to feed them. The people that worked there were clearly proud of the work being done and loved the animals. There was an adorable baby elephant missing part of his trunk that was clearly spoiled and loved entertaining visitors.
Tips: This is a bit out of the way. We took a helicopter from our lodge and I can't recommend that enough. What an amazing day. Also make sure to get there a bit early so you don't miss the entire feeding (the babies are first)!
I can't recommend this experience enough!

If you get the chance - go. This place has conservation and community at its very heart. Dorothy answered all our questions patiently, thoughtfully and knowledgeably and all the staff had a wonderful relationship with the elephants who are as cheeky, well nourished and playful as they would be with their own herd - in fact they look like a mini herd, just all the same size! Here is hoping as many of them as possible reunite with a herd.

I'm so sorry to have not received an email message from TripAdvisor that you'd sent a message and I just saw it as I rarely access the TA site. Reteti is extraordinary and again sorry if this message gets to you too late and i hope you made it there!

Hello I’m wondering to vist elephant sanctuary in reteti.
I would like to know if I can feed baby elephants and baby rhinos or are they fed by the people who work there and tourist just see?
How can I get from Samburu airport to the sanctuary? Do you offer any transportation?
Written 18 October 2018
Firstly it is a long way from the airstrip at Samburu , it is in the Matthews Range rather in Samburu National Park. No you can’t feed the elephants , but you get very close and there are none of the crowds at the Nairobi Orphange
