Masai-owned conservancy and safari camp near the Amboseli National Park.Selenkay Conservancy shares the same eco-system as Amboseli National Park and is established on land leased from the local Maasai by Gamewatchers Safaris & Porini Camps with the aim of protecting the wildlife habitat and encouraging wildlife conservation as an alternative to farming as a means for the local population to earn a living. Migrating species from Amboseli previously killed or driven off land set aside for farming are now able to make the conservancy their home. Recent years have witnessed a significant increase in wildlife numbers with elephants returning to Selenkay after a 20 year absence.

As a private conservancy next to the Amboseli, with only one small bushcamp, it is the perfect place to have the Amboseli game to yourself, without the crowd of Minivans etc.

The conservancy offers you an opportunity to get a little closer to the animals than in the park and demonstrates how valuable a conservancy is to save the wildlife and their habitat.

The conservancy is like having your own private animal viewing site. 1 minute after stepping off the plane we saw a giraffe looking at us from 50 yards and had a gazelle run by. It only got better after that.

We stayed in Porini's Amboseli in Selenkay Conservancy. The conservancy was DRY during the dry season - think dust everywhere. The panorama is quite different from nearby Amboseli National Park (swamps), so it is a good contrast. We saw a leopard - local Masai guides...More

Selenkay Conservancy is full of Kenya's wonderful wildlife and as there are only a couple of accomodation choices you are mostly on safari on your own. We were able to get so close to animals and our guides knew how to best approach the wildlife...More

If you want your safari to be perfect go to a conservancy. Selenkay conservancy was the first conservancy we visited in Africa and we absolutely fell in love. You can follow the wildlife off road and actually be the only car around which I think...More

Lovely land with wildlife near the Amboseli National Park - stayed with Porini Amboseli. Saw elephants, giraffes, zebras, cheetah, lions, and there are waterholes where the wildlife gather.

Our camp, Porini Amboseli is set in the Selenkay conservancy. It really felt like we had a private place that was secret from the rest of the world visiting Amboseli. Fantastic!

I think maybe you have not seen the full itinerary details as we recommend a minimum of 2 nights and ideally 3 nights at the Porini Camps. In fact we offer reduced rates if people stay a minimum of 6 nights at 2 camps. TA do... More
