Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is a really marvelous experience. We were taken to some district of Sendai city, apparently the old city centre. In there the hopping has started. We (together with a girlfriend) have visited the first place, serving a variety of the Japanese-style tapas - and really nice sake from Yamagata. Honestly speaking, I am not a sake expert, so all the times I was relying on our guide, Jess, who is Australian lady living in Sendai for many years, and with a broad knowledge of Japanese culture. Later we moved to some "oden" place, eating and drinking as well. Last stop was some kind of chicken-spades ("yakitori") place, where I tried the third sake, also great! Definitely good chance to get to know Japanese "izakaya" style of partying, especially with limited Japanese abilities :P

I think Sendai is not an English Speaking Friendly area, therefore have a local guide which can speak English is a better way to visit the city, We're lucky to get an Australian to be our guide since we were concerned about the accent of Japanese's English.
We loved those 2 Shiogama's local breweries, the first one owner was very warm and friendly, patient to answer our question, and kindly share the extra sparking Sake with us for tasting!
The Lunch was nice, the tea house was good either, until the end of the tour, we had 6-7 kinds of sakes. All the stores were not to hard sell to us, we had lots of hilarious conversation during the tour and also a very good time there! Fun memories! We definitely will back to Sendai in next year winter again to join the others local secret tour!

When in a different country, I always like to try local foods and drinks but sometimes, getting into some small, typical restaurants is not that easy...
While in Sendai, I was looking for a way to enjoy the local delicacy and, searching on the internet, I've found this tour!
Well, it was amazing! Not only we had fun while learning about Japanese food and sake culture, but we also had delicious food and drinks I would never be able to even order all by myself!
After the tour, I was actually very satisfied, but I must say, I wanted more so... Using all the knowledge the guides teached me during the tour, I had an adventure in Iroha Yokocho all by myself! Fantastic!

A great tour experiencing Sendai culture and food in "bunka yokocho" and "iroha yokocho"! The area was the first part of Sendai to recover after the war, and because of which, many restaurants still have the same feel it did 60 years ago.
You really feel like you're transported to a different realm with more than a hundred shops lining this labyrinthine marketplace. Without a tour guide I would definitely feel overwhelmed.
All three restaurants were delicious, my favorite being the first one which served yakitori, or chicken grilled on skewers. The level of tastiness from the chicken was out of this world! I would recommend the heart and breast accompanied with an ice cold beer.
The next restaurant was great because it had a nice selection of Japanese sake. The food was also tasty, particularly it's broccoli tempura.
The last and final izakaya had the best 'local' experience because we got to talk with the owner and chef, in Japanese called the 'o-kami-san.' she was actually from iwate prefecture and served us a delicious dish of oden, which is a bunch of boiled fishcakes and vegetables. She also served us some specialty Japanese sake from iwate.
Extremely fun and satisfying experience. Would do again 10/10.

If you are planning to come to Sendai, you enjoy drinking and trying new food, but you don't have any Japanese language abilities, I definitely recommend this tour for you! It's a great way to get to know more about Japanese culture (and a bit of Sendai's history!) while drinking good alcohol and eating different kinds of food! Also, a perfect way to experience Japanese style of drinking in interesting places, which are hard to get to if you don't know the city very well.
