Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Kannon statue is impressive, and you can take an elevator up inside and pray on the way down.
The interior from above is spacious and stylish.
There is only a viewing window to the outside.
It says it's a restaurant, but unfortunately it was closed. It doesn't seem to be open.

It's a great Kannon statue with an incredible presence and power!!! If you go to see it up close, you'll understand why it's called the final boss of Sendai! It's 100m tall and the tallest Kannon statue in Japan. It's now become a bit of a tourist spot in Sendai. You can go inside the statue and the admission fee is 500 yen for adults. Take the elevator to the 12th floor, the top, and then walk back up the spiral staircase. There's a lot to see inside as well as outside, and the dark interior creates a solemn atmosphere that's almost mysterious. By the way, you can see outside from the top, but only through a small window. Still, it's great to be able to see the spectacular view of Sendai!

The way this statue is situated on top of a hill overlooking a neighborhood and an Aeon mall sends me the chills. We took 90 minute ride from Tokyo to Sedai just to see it. There is a bus from Sendai station which takes you there in 40 minutes (just ask the information counter for directions). There is also a bus on the opposite direction which comes back to Sendai so do not worry about coming back.

The statue is huge, the largest in the world when it was built but has since slipped down the rankings a bit.
Its free to walk around it and there is a small entry fee when we went inside it. On the first floor are a number of life size Buddhas and mythical king statues. The Buddhas are beautifully painted.
An elevator took us to the twelfth level where we looked out over the countryside through small windows. We also wrote our wishes on a candle that was going to be blessed and later burnt in the temple....
We then had an easy walk down inside the statue using a series of stairs and ramps. There are 12 levels, each with 8 Buddhas, the 108 Buddhas representing the 108 earthly human passions. Each is carved from white stone and mounted in a timber case....
There are benches sit and contemplate (or to rest) on some of the levels.
The staff are happy to talk about the statues and Buddhism though have limited English.....

You can go inside and there’s an elevator that takes you high up and the city can be observed from the windows which are holes in the monument. There are 103 figures of Buddhas spread over the floors on the way down.
