Constructed in the 1600s, this castle was originally named Otakasaka after the hill on which it resides. Built to defend the city below, the structure was partially damaged by a fire in the early 1700s but never faced a formal attack.

Well worth a visit but you need to be reasonably fit to manage the walk up the hill and negotiate the large numbers of steps in the buildings. Great views from the top of the keep. Lots of information boards with the displays and many...More

There are volunteer guides available, booking needed at the tourist information deck. Not sure if the guides speak english though. The guide will tell and show the small but interesting bits about the castle surroundings. For inside the castle, there was not so much to...More

The castle sits atop the hill and offers a great view of Kochi city. Requires many steps to reach the top but definitely worth it. Most displays have English description. 桜の季節は 初めて行きました 階段があるのでお城としては 凄く良いと思う 景色も良く、料金も高くないのでオススメ ただk英語の説明がないので もう少し英語表記が多いと良いと思う

One is greeted with the ornately carved giant gates adorned with bronze plates (with their greenish stains) as you snake up the stone steps to the top of the hill where the Kochi Castle is majestically nestled. For those with weaker knees, there are wooden...More

Nice place to visit. Classic Japanese castle, one of the 12 that has survived the years. As with most 'original' castles in Japan it seems not that old due to restauration etc. Great view over Kochi city, defenitly worth visiting.

Japan is bursting with castles, they are all over the country. Castles are one of the reasons I wanted to visit Japan, to take a step back into ancient history, the time of the warring states, the time of Edo and soforth. But after visiting...More
