Ritsurin Garden is a superb cultural asset that conveys the characteristics of the daimyo strolling gardens that were typically seen in the 17th and 18th century. A daimyo strolling garden is a type of traditional Japanese garden in which ponds and hills are expertly constructed over a vast tract of land, and you can enjoy the garden's space as you leisurely walk around inside.

The Ritsurin Garden is a strolling garden which was designated as a "National Place of Special Scenic Beauty" and I can see why. The garden is very impressive! It was also given the highest rating of 3 stars by the French tourist guide "Michelin Green Guide Japan". The garden is known for its 1,400 pine trees, the most notable of... More

We came to Takamatsu to see this garden. It really is beautiful and only 400 yen entrance fee. Despite the rain we enjoyed every minute and walked for 3 hours. Do not miss the special hill, in the shape of Mount Fuji to view the garden, a really splendid viewpoint.

Ritsurin Garden is best visited early in the morning (it opens at 5:30), when there are very few people around. The Garden itself is stunning, meticulously groomed and landscaped. One can even buy a Bonsai (approx. 25,000 yen)! Ritsurin is a must see for any visitor to Takamatsu.

This garden in Takamatsu on the island of Shikoku does not get the press it deserves. You could easily spend 4-5 hours there roaming the grounds. I travelled from Okayama Station on the main island which took around 45-50 minutes. From Takamatsu Station you can take a 30 minute walk to the Park (straight up the main round using guide... More

Tranquil park, so excited to take many photos and feeding fishes. Watch the animation 鳥龍麵之國的金色毛毬 (Udon no Kuni no Kin-iro Kemari, うどんのくにのきんいろけまり) first, you can experience a different Kagawa and Ritsurin Garden. Seems going with Pok-ko.

Ritsurin goen, said to be one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan, is walking distance (or short transit) from Takamatsu town center. I went in early spring so the sakura were in bloom. There are various shops, tea rooms etc. tucked away throughout the grounds so as you wander through the gardens you come upon a nice resting place... More

Ritsurin is well worth the drive, we visited Korakuen in Okayama the day before which was lovely but Ritsurin was so much quieter and far more refined. The huge cedar when you walk in is impressive, the simple pathways to the tearooms are an easy stroll. We had tea at the Kikegetsu tea rooms on the way round which was... More

We went there early morning and it was very cold. We were able to feed birds and they will not fly away from you.
