Overview
More
Ritsurin Garden is a superb cultural asset that conveys the characteristics of the daimyo strolling gardens that were typically seen in the 17th and 18th century. A daimyo strolling garden is a type of traditional Japanese garden in which ponds and hills are expertly constructed over a vast tract of land, and you can enjoy the garden's space as you leisurely walk around inside.

This beautiful garden is amazing. You can have a lovely tea served in the historic teahouse. There is quite a bit of diversity within the garden and you are sure to find a spot from where you can admire the lovely views.

We spent a couple of hours in the morning visiting the gardens. There are two suggested routes, a north and a south route. We prefer the south route because you get to see more lakes and the famous bridge being featured on their brochure and...More

Remarkably uncrowded for such a beautiful garden, a rival to Kenrokuen in Kanazawa and Korakuen in Okayama — but the meticulously pruned pine trees and borrowed scenery of a wild hillside are better!

We came in May, not a special flower blossom season, so it’s just a big park with lots of green. If you come from a country without much green you’ll find it very nice here. Not bad to spend an hour strolling around (if weather...More

Not to be missed! I’m not a huge gardens fan but this one is truly impressive! Being situated right at the feet of a mountain range only adds to its beautiful scenery.

Leave at least 1.75 hours to explore this gorgeous and stunning garden. Worth traveling to Takamatsu just for his, but the city has a great vibe and is a great stop on a tourist itinerary. The garden has two main paths. One is an hour...More

If you've visited other gardens in Japan you'll find Ritsurin "rougher", less delicate than say Kenruoken in Kanazawa. That's what makes it appealing - and that it's backdrop is not the city but two forested hills. Ritsurin is beautiful and tranquil. There is also a...More

I visited in mid April. Wisteria and Azallea were so beautiful. Elaborated pine trees in Bonsai style were impressive. A senior volunteer guide was amiable and he explained the history of this garden as we strolled for two hours. It made this more memorable visit....More

This is a must see when in Takamatsu. Top 3 garden in Japan. The far south side cannot be missed. Please find time to go here.

A beautiful Japanese garden. Many paths and trees, ponds, rivers, fish, plants, bridges. This is a tranquil garden for walking and enjoying the very manicured landscaped garden and enjoy the beauty of nature. I really recommend this place and you can spend 2 hours easily...More
