Stone Gate

It's on your way to the Castle, so you'll pass it anyway, but stop and take a moment to read on it and understand its place in the overall castle grounds.

This was the private gate used by the royal family and is a symbol of religious value as well. It is near the Shuri mon gates leading into Shuri Castle. A must see for all who want to see what it was like hundreds of years ago when the Ryukyu Kingdom was alive and well.

I walked up and took a look at the gate and several pictures and then took pictures of the world heritage sign. I thought the sign was for Shuri-jo but later looking at the sign it was for the Stone Gate.

It only takes a minute to see but, many travelers miss this UNESCO site on their way to Shuri-jo Castle. It is a very important cultural asset dating way back to the 16th Century.
