We went here by ferry (160 yen) on a rainy day. Unfortunately we could not see the top of the volcano as it was covered in clouds. The boat ride is nice since it gives you a nice view on sakurajima and Kagoshima city. I...More

So wonderful to see this with my own eyes. Only thing better would be I minor eruption. I took a tour close to the mountain and it was well worth it. If you get a chance come down and check this out.

One of my good friends used to live in Kagoshima, and he was always raving about how awesome Sakurajima was, so I was excited to see it in person. It was really neat to have it on the skyline while I was there, and we...More

I was hoping for clouds of ash to appear...and they did, several times during my stay. Once whilst I was close actually on Sakurajima, and then several times when I was viewing it from afar. It was impressive.

I have a stop here on a cruise from noon until 11pm How long/time would it take to get to the ferry for a trip to the mountain? Is the ferry far from the ship port and what transportation is available to get from the ship to the ferry?
