You may be surprised that there are a spot covered in fresh air in Yokohama. If you get tired from the bustle of Yokohama, I recommend you to walk the precinct in the temple. Because there are not many people in the temple even on holiday, unless the festival is held, you can take a leisurely walk... More

Visited on culture day (Nov 3) where the temple hosts the Tsurumi city culture day events. It was a wonderful way to spend the day mingling with the local residents, trying some great food at the numerous food booths and enjoying various cultural performances. A true local experience! Temple entrance is easy to find from the JR Tsurumi station by... More

I first visited Soji-ji while passing through the area and was impressed by the scale of the temple complex. That is fitting as it is a major site for Soto Buddhism. It was particularly quiet and appears to be more functional than tourist attraction. Later in the week I returned, not to check out the practicing priests (although they were... More

Always beautiful and usually the main entrance is open, so you can watch some of the daily activities inside. The temple is very big, very traditional and most of the local people goes there for New Years gong. The garden is big, always clean and full of flowers depending on the season. I love this place and it's a nice... More

I visited this temple recently and was impressed with the range of buildings, shrines, statues and garden areas in what turned out to be a large scale Buddhist complex. When approaching the temple, you pass two huge stone lanterns on pedestals that direct you to an old wooden carved gate which in turn directs your gaze ahead to another bigger... More

Soji-Ji Temple is huge. The area consists of 5 to 6 different buildings. I came upon the temple by accident when exploring the area close to my hotel. The temple felt more appropriate for a place like Kyoto than Yokohama. If you are to visit Yokohama, I would highly suggest seeing the temple. It allows you to see a more... More
