    Prepare to wait.
You have to go see it because it really is striking. But we timed it wrong. Did not have time to wait in the 1+ hour line to get our pic with it since we needed to be on the last pirate ship departure back to our hotel. We just hopped to the front and took a pic from the side while those in line switched places. Wish we’d had time to wait in the queue so we could be in the pic but just didn’t have time.

Shrine is Beautiful but Tourism ruins it
Hakone Shine is absolutely beautiful. It's very picturesque deep in the woods with giant cedar trees. The Torii Gate floating in the water is surrounded by beautiful scenes of the lake and mountains. Unfortunately, it's become so popular, everyone comes out to see the Torii Gate. A simple photographer like me who just wants to get a quick photo of the shrine has to be patient as there is a long line of people waiting to take photos. The day I went, it was like an hour wait. There were groups of people taking photos. First they would take a selfie, then group photo, then a photo with other people, it was just ridiculous. This attraction deserves 5 stars, but tourism has ruined it.

    Beautiful shrines
We took a private tour to Hakone Shrine and enjoyed it very much. Since it was a colder December day, the crowds weren’t too bad - and manageable. Area is clean, has rest rooms as well. You have to take a few steps uphill to see the main shrine but very worth it. Area is shaded and Zen.

Nice shrine with torri gate by the water. If you want to take photos, you must prepare for long queues.

While on a tour to Tokyo we took a bus tour with a cruise. We could see this beautiful shrine from the cruise. A must visit tour for people visiting Tokyo.

The Hakone Shrine and in particular the Torii gate in the lake were very busy with people queuing for a photo in front of it. Honestly though the best photo and best way to appreciate it is the view from a boat of the Torii gate, the lake and Mount Fuji just wonderful.

Photo stop. There is free parking at the site but if you wish to take photos with the torii gate by the water there’s a long queue of people waiting.

Located in Lake Ashi. It was a nice walk around the area. There was a line to take a picture in front of the shrine, but you have to visit at the exact time of the day, otherwise the sun is behind you and it is difficult to get a nice/clear picture without you being a silhouette.

A famous shrine with its enormous 'torii' (Red Wood) Gate set a few yards into the Ashi Lake.

Were it not overrun with 200 or more Locals and Visiting Tourists (all taking Selfies, and in pairs, then several Group Shots), we might have been able to savour the tranquil atmosphere, but it was, so we didn't. 25+ minutes long of a queue, when we only had an Hour, made it pointless.

We looked, read the signs, smiled, took the best Image we could manage and left.

We were there in the early afternoon - hopeless. This is a first thing or nothing Attraction.

The weather on this particular Day was grey overcast rainy and grim (shortly before Typhoon Hagibis hit), which reduced Visitor Numbers considerably !!
