For many people, the attraction here will largely lie in the exceptionally beautiful gardens. Part of them consist of a shady moss-covered area and part of a more formal display of Japanese shrubs and trees. The whole thing amounts to what I think is the...More

I agree with many of the previous reviews that the pottery collection is average (the displays are a bit dated) but that it is worth the visit for the moss gardens.

This is not a large museum, having 5 rooms of historical pottery from across time and countries. There are some gems here - the Jamon period pots, particularly. It won't take long to tour the building but the garden is worth a visit too. Moss...More

The Hakone museum of art is easily accessed from the second stop at Koen-Kami on the Cable Car. In mid winter parts of the garden were closed off and the tea house was shut. Even so they alone were worth the moderate entrance fee. They...More

Small museum with steep admission price that was clearly not worth the money (even in pricey Hakone) but the place was crowded clearly not because of the museum but because of the adjoining museum garden, which offered spectacular views in November. No match for Kyoto...More

Don't miss the opportunity to walk around in this beautiful garden with outdoor pieces of art placed in the garden. The Picassomuseum is indoors and must be seen. Pictures and ceramics.

It’s not a big museum, just two floors filled with a very nice selection of porcelain and ceramic work. And similar to other Japanese museums, the exhibitions are very minimal, clean and quiet. There are some really nice works dating several thousand years ago in...More

The touristy Hakone area of Japan includes a series of railway hill stations beginning at Hankone-Yumoto and ending at Gora (pronounced “Go-la.” Japanese does not have the “r” sound). At the end of the line, and in between, are famous hot springs, shrines, galleries, hikes,...More
