Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This station was the transit between the ropeway and the cable car.

We were impressed with the changes since we were last here. The old concrete viewing area by the parking lot was still there.

The station was modern, spacious . Inside was bright with a lot of open space and seating, bathrooms, and a souvenir shop that sold coffee, teas and snacks. The patio area was darker but gave the best panoramic views of the valley.

Well worth a short stop on the way down to Hakone when not so rushed.

This area has been rebuilt and is very accessible now. We saw many people with young children not having any problems getting around. In the past it was very difficult

Our last leg of our journey up to the Hakone crater started at the Sounzan station and taking the Hakone Tozan cable cars. Pretty interesting journey overall starting from Hakone to the mountain top. It is an upward journey that enriched our senses qnd cultural experience overall. Quite an amazing but tiring day trip. Pretty much a once in a lifetime event.

Tip: consider getting the Hakone Free Pass even for a day trip if you plan to take advantage of all modes of transportation around the Hakone loop. We got here using the Hakone Tozan cable cars from Gora and it’s the first Hakone Ropeway station on our way to Owakudani. Having the Hakone Free Pass was convenient without the need to spend time purchasing tickets.

somewhat at the crossroads of other sites in the Hakone area

we passed by enroute after the Lake Ashi cruise to Owakudani, home of the volcanic crater and the black eggs - the local myth that if you eat one, you'll add 7 years to your life

Sounzan stations is the best place to start a Hakone ropeway. you can take a ropeway and see the Owakudani crater below you. which is you can`t if you start from Owakuddani to Togendai Stations.

the challenge is Sounzan only have limited parking area. so if you arrange large group please consider the bus timing. so your group will not have traffic jam.

Sounzan station is the starting point of the Hakone ropeway connecting Sounzan, Owakudani and Togendai. It is at the terminus of the Hakone Tozan cablecar. Small place.

Great to visit, can see the geysers and smell the sulphur! If you're lucky you can see Mt Fuji well and take photos. The local speciality is the boiled eggs and black ice cream. Lots of fun

Nice view. Enjoy the black eggs, they are just hard boiled eggs that are black and get some ice cream.
