交通公園と名のつくところは全国にありますが、ここの特徴は高速バスが保存されている点です。鉄道車両にくらべて構造が弱いバスは、長期間屋外に保存することが難しいのですが、ここでは屋根の下で丁寧に手入れがされてます。また路線バスにくらべて車両数が少ない高速バスの保存車は、全国でも珍しいです。レトロな外観ですが、今や全国を走る高速バスの魁となった車両で、東京と大阪を結びました。その歴史に思いを馳せてみるのはいかがでしょうか？
アクセス性も、つくばエクスレスのつくば駅から徒歩圏内だし、自動車でのアクセスも大通りが面しているので良好です。

自家用車で行きました。自転車を貸し出してくださるサービスがあり
補助輪の付いた、自転車をお借りして練習しました。交通ルールを学びながら
練習できるので、よかったです。３歳児にどんな自転車を買ってあげたらと悩んでいた時でしたのでここでの体験が役立ちました。蒸気機関車D５１の展示は、大人も

お子さんは自分の自転車で行き、ここの信号機などを使って交通ルールが学べます。蒸気機関車やバスの展示も子供にはうれしいところ。自動車でのアクセスはややトリッキーですね。

自家用車でいきました。入口がわかりにくかったのですが、20台くらいの駐車場がありました。公園事務所は駅の姿で、駅のホームが再現され、Ｄ５１が展示されていました。機関車の下には線路もあって、今にも走り出しそう。運転席にも自由に乗れて、初めて機関車の運転席に座ることができました。この大きな機関車を運転していた方々ってすごいですね。子どもよりもはしゃいでしまいました。
公園はあまり広くありませんが、坂道もあり、子どもが自転車の練習をするのに良いと思いました。自転車の貸し出しもしているので、持っていかなくても良いのがうれしいです。

蒸気機関車に直に触れられるこの公園が息子3歳の大好きな場所です。姉は自転車にのる練習もできるし、一石二鳥です。土日にはカフェワゴンが出ており、そこで食べるかき氷とワッフルも最高。駐車場が狭いのが難点ですので、早めのお出かけがおすすめです。

宿泊したホテル(ホテルルートつくば つくば市花室）に近く(徒歩2分）、Ｄ５１が展示されていたので立ち寄る。Ｄ５１の他には、ＪＲバスが設置されており、ともに乗り降り出来ます。当日は、日曜日で天気も良く、幼児連れの家族が3～4組、自転車の練習をしてました。(貸出料金 1時間 自転車 100円、ゴーカート 200円） トンネル、クランク、信号、横断歩道あり、交通ルールを学ぶのにはいいと思います。ゴーカートは見かけませんでした。「さくら交通公園」の名前どうり、桜の咲くころはきっと爽快でしょう！！
大人にも、Ｄ５１の運手席に座ったりして、いい体験できました！！
