Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Contemporary design which was disappointing to me because I wanted to see more culture. Walls were dingy and plain white. We were headed to Terminal 2, transiting to Dallas USA. Not many eating shops around. But everything was organized and systematic. Toilets were fantastic. There were rooms for showers too, for a fee.

We arrived too early for our flight so I had a good look round the upstairs shopping area which was pretty good. Decided to have something to eat after we had checked in and gone through security. However not many places to eat here. So if you are looking for a meal have it before going through security.

Just Arrived to Narita Airport and to visit around the compound. The wasnt much of facilities to use but it was ok.The airport was not too modernized nor shabby..the train station was very easy to be located but taking the right train was sort of hard to decide..
First look i was happy to see this machine which was a free sim card machine called (WAMAZING) specifically use for foreigners or tourist,"Warning:Best to register through app for android or iphone 1day before" Cause if u register it in the airport upon arrival there is a waiting time for roughly 1~2hrs.after that u just need to scan the QR code from your phone to the machines scanner and that's it.u got your free sim card for 5days.The sim card is for 5days=within 5days use in japan is 500MB that is free for use in a day.that was the best part cause at least u can find the location u want to go for the first day arrival.

Charles & Penelope first visit to Japan. Narita was quiet and peaceful experience. I'd love to spend more time there. Tokyo on the other hand was the experience of a life time. The shopping area we went to was more than I could handle, however my wife and daughter thought it was fantastic.

This terminal is small and very sparsely populated with "interesting shops" or restaurants. There is a little "walk through mall" outside of security with an excellent selection of shops etc that I highly recommend for souvenir shopping etc (be warned however, if you exit the secure area of the airport, like during a connection or layover, you will have to go through security and immigration/customs again.. very time consuming).
The WORST part of terminal 1 is the Immigration and Customs hall for OUTBOUND travelers. U.S. travelers aren't accustomed to this (in the outbound direction). On a Tuesday morning around 10AM the queues for outbound immigration were HUGE, and amounted to about a 45 minute wait. The customs halls was very warm and uncomfortable (and frankly.. very "un-Japenese"). As a Delta flyer you have no choice but to experience Terminal 1..

Not just the observation deck which is a nice final view of the place before you leave, this is just a superb airport in every way. For an airport of its massive size , it us outstandingly well organised, airy, well lit and comfortable.
Ordinarily I wouldn't bother reviewing an observation deck, because it is what it is, it's just I wanted to leave some sort of positive feedback on TripAdvisor for this excellent, stress free, modern, comfortable airport which has been a pleasure to travel through.

........whilst awaiting your flight.
Accessed directly from airport so no need to go far.
Good views across the runways/taxiway's to watch aircraft. Limited number of seats.
Only downside is the fencing around it which makes photography difficult.

The Terminal 1 5F not only has the observation deck where you can watch and even take photos of planes taking off and landing. It's quite entertaining, in a way, except for the noise. It also has a wide selection of restaurants serving traditional Japanese dishes (very good ramen!), Italian food, Chinese, etc. There are some shops (although 4F is the shopper's dream for last minute purchases) including an umbrella store where you can find the latest styles and designs not readily available elsewhere in the U.S. A wonderful place to hangout on a layover.

I arrive into the Narita Airport at 9:15am and don't leave for my destination until 5:50pm. Would it be worth or realistic taking the train to downtown Tokyo. Any other travel destinations nearby that anyone would recommend?

If you take one of the hotel shuttle buses e.g. the one going to the Gateway hotel, it goes to the Aeon mall. It's a fun place to shop. They even have a Daiso(100 yen shop) with zillions of trinkets. You can grab bottled water, soft drinks and snacks for 100 yen among other things. Or you could go to the Narita temple. It's very crowded during the new year's celebration.

My flight to Narita will arrive at almost lunch time. Can we find a good place to eat at the Arrival Station?
Written 25 April 2017
Hi Raquel,
Yup there are a lot to choose from, from the downright simple and fast (7-11, McDo) to mid-class (Starbucks) to numerous Japanese Ramen, Tonkatsu and Wagyu restos. Price ranges from astonishingly low (JPY 500 food for 3pax at 7-11) to absurdly expensive (JPY 1100 for a 5-stack pancake with blueberry sauce). Imagine a pancake costing Php 550.00/US$ 11.00 per plate of 5pcs.
Btw, we may see 7-11 and Lawson stores as purely convenience stores when there is nothing else to choose from, at least here in PH. But in Japan, these 2 stores are like the lifeblood of common people and even professionals. You'll be amazed at the food selections they sell and sometimes, lines are a bit long during lunch and dinner time.
Happy trip....

I will be spending 3 days in Tokyo early March and not planning on taking any long distance trips. What is the least expensive way to travel between NRT and my hotel in Shinjuku? And, for local travel within Tokyo, can I buy a one-day pass to use on the metro (say, the circle line Yamamoto). How does that work and how much is the pass?
Written 5 February 2017
Regarding day pass, there are a number of types with different inclusions. They range from JPY 600, 1000 and 1590. The first 2 has its own limitations while the last one includes even some buses.
