    An oasis of calm
I was fortunate to have half a day in Narita during good weather. My airport hotel had a free shuttle to the Narita JR station and from there, I walked down the charming Omotesando Street, which has hosted businesses catering to temple visitors for centuries. Entrance to the temple complex is free. The grounds are quite extensive and contain a multitude of temples, some many centuries old, as well as gardens and woodland with shrines and statues, and a beautiful pond with healthy fish. There are vendors who sell amulets and offerings and the amulets make inexpensive souvenirs. I spent about 2.5 hours there and found it relaxing and restorative. This is a place of worship and several ceremonies were in progress. Visitors can attend but are asked to remove their shies when entering the temples and not to take photographs inside. The complex is hilly and the there are a lot of steps, so wear comfortable shoes. Most signs do not have an English translation, and there are no brochures, so if knowing every detail is important to you, ask for a guide who can speak English. The temple complex is a definite must see in Narita!

Naritasanji temple is a lovely temple situated in Narita town/village. Lots of steps to climb but if there is problem to walk, climb.on the side of the steps there is a lift one can use..it is well worth a visit easily accessible from the jr Narita station most hotels have shuttle bus service and there is a huge garden, lake alongside. Well worth a visit..the main village road leads to the temple and there are many shops for souvenirs and local delicacies and lots of restaurants..well worth a visit.

    Great place to wander
Impressive temple grounds and buildings. My husband saw a sign that they offer tours in English, which would be useful if you have time. Meanwhile, this is great place to walk around. We also enjoyed strolling main shopping street in town...far less crowded than tokyo, cute shops and restaurants, locals shopping produce. Time we'll spent before hopping on a plane.

Great place to visit before leaving Japan
This is a nice temple about 20-30 minutes walk from the Narita JR Station through a traditional Japanese street. It should be a nice walk if the weather is either not too hot or cold. The entrance to the temple is free and the buildings within the temple are historical and very nice, including the three-storied pagoda and the pagoda of peace. Next to the temple is the Naritasan Park which is scenic and very tranquil and worth a walk through.

We had one night stay in Narita before flying home and this popped up as a worthwhile place to visit. We were a bit tired from travelling and it was late afternoon so almost decided to turn back to the hotel at the end of Omotesando St (the old shopping street) but, on impulse, decided to give the temple a look. We were so glad we did. By the time we got there the sun was low and the soft light illuminated all of the gorgeous buildings with a warm glow. There were very few others there which also helped give relaxing ambience to the complex. We could only spend an hour there as the light was fading but could easily have spent twice that time just on the building - let alone the adjacent park. If you are in Narita then this a must visit place.

We are in love to visiting the Shine, Temple, and Pandora at the Narita San Park where truly would be perfect in all season. We are very lucky enough to feel the breeze with some flowers of Pre-Spring season in the month of February which usually would still be in the winter season without any flower to viewing in the area. the local is very the ancient sightseeing with all traditional food and snack in Japanese Styles which are made in the unique ways of the Japanese community to keep the area being charming and memorable for the trips in Japan.

Temple is the hottest spot in Narita. All the local people advertise it and you should definitely visit it. The temple is located in a huge park with lakes and waterfalls and consists of other worthwhile places to visit such as a calligraphy museum.
Also the road that leads to the temple from the main station of the city is a beautiful street, full of souvenir shops and local delicacies. It is worth walking it and not going by car.

I've heard of this famous temple a lot, so I've always wanted to go. I walked from Narita Station along Omotesando. It was very spacious, with not only Shinshoji Temple, but also a park. I went there around lunchtime on a weekday, and it was quite crowded. It was just the time for the Goma ceremony (the attendant said so), so I went into the main hall (?) and spent about 20 minutes listening to sutras and receiving a purification ritual. It was a great experience.

The Naritasan is a beautiful and big temple complex near Narita Station that's definitely worth seeing, but you'll want to choose the timing of your visit carefully. Since the Naritasan is one of Japan's most popular temples, the complex gets pretty crowded over the New Year days or big Japanese holidays.

When you're able to avoid the crowds the temple grounds are perfect for a peaceful stroll!

WOW! Our guide Fusako Fujita made this one of the best tours I have had in my life.
She picked us up on-time at the airport and guided us through the maze to a local train into Narita. She explained so many details of the town, its history, the various building, the temple complex, and guided us to a fabulous restaurant that specializes in unagi. Her English is very good, and she explained things very well. A wonderful sense of humor. She paced the tour at a leisurely pace and even played a game in trying to figure out what 3 building housed. I got all three! She was surprised. During our meal she gave us a chopstick stand, and an origami set.
What a wonderful time we had and cannot imagine how anyone could be a better guide. Thank you!!

If you are in Narita, it’s a must see. Beautiful temple complex with a big garden to walk around. The inside pf the main temple that you can visit is beautifully decorated, still a place of worship.

The monk at the place where you apply for prayers was the worst. That alone made me not want to go up those stairs. There was a volunteer information desk at the top of the stairs, but it was not very useful. They didn't speak English, and it was impossible to communicate in Japanese. For prayers, amateurs handed out the prayer slips, and I didn't feel any kindness of "thank you for visiting us." Is that what Shingon Buddhism is like? Everything is condescending in Narita City.
