The amazing thing about this place is that it is twinned with Halifax, Canada. The Citadel was designed based on European citadels and is built overlooking a sand bar that filled in the area between the mainland and an island. The day we were there,...More

We visited the park on 18th Of May. Most of the cherry blossom was finished and we were a week or so too early for the old Wisteria trees and the beautiful azaleas. On the ground, you can't really appreciate the star shape of the...More

The Goryokaku Tower is famous for its view during the cherry blossom season or the snowy winter season. I got lucky and went right in the middle of these two seasons - hence, I saw a picturesque scene of bare trees and brown land. Rather...More

Went there before the cherry blossom open last april. It was one of the must go places in hakodate. A walk in the park is very relaxing with very few people. Enjoyed every moment i was there. The best thing is that it is free.

The cherry blossoms were fragile but very beautiful. I was not able to walk through the whole park but definitely will go there AGAIN.

We caught the last part of the cherry blossoms. It was beautiful! Although we didn't get to see the full bloom, it was still a stunning view. We didn't have a chance to go up the observatory; however, I think it's worth it only when...More

Hi, thank you for sharing your Goryokaku Park review. I booked a Celebrity Millennium cruise to Hakodate May 10, 2017. I think ship dock is Minatocho. Do you have any suggestion how to get to Goryokaku park/Tower, Motomachi by bus/tram ? thank you.

Hakodate has an excellent tram system with a stop close to the park. It's about a 10 minute ride from the centre. Your cruise ship will probably provide a shuttle bus to the town. Enjoy Peter
