Beautiful Sanddune. Walk around and see the sights and play POKEMON Go! Because there are POKEMON stops every 100meters. In summer, probably early mornings are the best time for playing. There are Gyms to play too.

The prospect of a trudging up a high sand dune on a cold and blustery winter's day may not seem that attractive, but it is well worth it. The first view across the dunes is breath taking - as is the subsequent climb (in a more literal sense). With the cold biting wind whipping up the sand, it is still... More

It's different when I saw Tottori in May and in December when it's cold and cloudy. I realized it was more beautiful when you go up the hill and appreciate the vast scenery of the sand dune. And at the other side you will find a beautiful sea.

Be prepared to walk in deep sand and enjoy a wonderful view of sand and sea. It is often windy so dress well and bring your camera.

We were there on a rainy day, so did not manage to see or get on camels to go around the dunes. Only saw some signs about camels. You will need to take the ropeway to get to the sand dunes. Get on top of the dunes, see and hear the ocean... you will definitely not expect to see these... More

Just shows how varied geological Japan is! If your passing through these parts it is worth a visit, this and the Sand museum and Nashi's (Asian pears) are what makes Tottori!!

Beyond the dunes, there is a sea which people seldom see... it is on the west coast of Japan where less people go over to... vs. the great cities of Tokyo, Osaka etc. amazing!!

We took the city bus form the Tottori train station to one of the two stops at the Tottori Sand Dunes or Desert. Bus was cheap and efficient. We stepped off the bus and walk over the hill up the stairs and there it was! it is small but bizarre and we enjoyed the 1/2 day trip immensely! It is... More

Nice place to stroll and photographs. Lot of places near for lunch. The place looks better in a sunny day.

Could not have imagined such a place in Japan. Although it looks quite daunting it is worth the trek up the dunes to see the sea.
